From various meetings at WB we have been informed the knock down of the bus station starts early Jan, 87 will terminate Ednam st, layovers on priory or Broadway to be used. Toilets restroom to be provided as well.
should be all fun and games then.

I had heard Tower Street was also going to be used (or was at one stage).
At least the college kids won't have far to get their buses (The Broadway is where Dudley College is, so it'll be fun for buses laying over!)
The WMCA website says that "Demolition of the 1986 built bus station means bus stops will be temporarily relocated to Tower Street and Ednam Road." The webpage is at https://www.wmca.org.uk/news/work-on-24-million-dudley-interchange-to-begin-in-new-year/#:~:text=Dudley%20Bus%20Station%20will%20be,between%20bus%20and%20Metro%20services.
This is a drive in & reverse out type of bus station isn't it?
First one in the WM county I think?
I think so. It replaced the previous bus station which ran up the hill level with Birmingham Street at 90° to the present one. The former car park to the south was part of the former bus station site and was earmarked for a development which never happened.
I know the idea is to demolish the bus station in January however I read that Dudley council had imposed traffic parking restrictions from the 27th November 23, is this to prep for the closure or is this the date the Current Dudley Bus station will be closing??

To prep for the closure as temporary stands need to be built.

There's not been anything officially announced yet, but I expect it won't be until sometime in January next year.
Details of stop changes should be published in advance by TfWM on their website.

Thank you for that, not been out to DY for many years, this would be a farewell trip, few pics to remember the place, sadly i didnt get enough of WN and i didnt know about WA or WB so never got those either, im trying to create a record of West Midlands buses before its too late.
Is Dudley the last of that particular late 80's vintage still in use?
Notices at all stands at Dudley Bus Station state that it is closing on 14 January. Each notice has a map showing where the bus routes at that stand will depart from once the station closes.
Do we know how long the new bus station is scheduled to take to complete??

18 months it is reckoned. Though going by recent form on these kinds of projects, will probably end up being 2-3 years and millions of pounds over budget.
Was a bit surprised to see a notice up informing passengers about the forthcoming closure of Dudley bus station, inside one of Yardley Wood's vehicles!
2-3 years is being very optimistic!

The information on TFWM is rubbish, it should be prominent on the buses section of the website. And then after hunting for it, all they provide Is a Web link a about the project and a map of the stops, but no details of what buses stop where? The only decent info is on the NX site.

Last day tomorrow
Just a reminder
Well that's me last service bus out of Dudley after nearly 34 years
Shaplifters have complained about where the new stops are they are complaining they have further to run to get the buses to get away
RSPCA been up Dudley concerned about where the rots are going to live after being evicted
I took a trip to Dudley today to pay my last respects to the bus station.
I know I haven't been there for a few years now, but my, what a dump. I actually felt like I'd travelled back in time.
It was all the same as I remember from before, I even remembered where I needed to get buses back to Birmingham from. Even most of the signage was still in the old Centro/Network West Midlands style.
Only thing different I could see were the real-time displays at each stand, but even then the one at the 126 stop was wrong, stuck at 14:46 showing a 126 due in 3mins, although it was just past 3pm.
On arrival at the bus station, I was greeted by the sight of a police car and several officers blocking a 74, there were passengers on board and there appeared to be two officers on the bus talking to a man sat on the rear seats.
Went for a walk around the town centre while I was there, wasn't surprised to see cars parked on the tram tracks right next to the mosque. :undecided:
It's a real shame as I used to enjoy going into Dudley when I was younger, looks more like a warzone than a 'regeneration project'.
Travelled into Dudley hoping to feel a bit nostalgic, left there feeling glad that bus station is being demolished.
Sadly the bus station has been neglected for years, mirroring much of the surrounding town. While the market continues, most of the high street names (eg M&S) have long since moved to Merry Hill.
Sounds like they need to widen the area of demolition

I went last Saturday.
Thinking back, it was so modern at the time, along with the Wolves one that opened around the same time, compared with the old one & the circa 1975 Walsall one still in use then.
(Don't remember the pre 1986 Wolves one, as we always used the 560 from Bloxwich, which terminated at Wulfruna Street!)
Another blog I follow, this time Phil Tonks.

Before veg start moaning they couldn't go it was a private event organised by tfwm with the contractors who are now in charge of the land/building site
The new Dudley stops are a joke, perfect TfWM planning. Too many services serving 1 stop, pavements nowhere wide enough. Loads of confused and frustrated people, hardly any inspectors as per. Whos bright idea was it to shove all the Wolverhampton bound services together and also the 74/87?
Shambles and it's only the first day...

Wouldn't shove all the busy services for one shelter, when there's an empty one not in use. Nice to see they've bothered to give the 6 its own shelter but not thought about giving the 74 and 87 there own one.

Standard practise for TfWM on any city centre/town centre stop is it can have a departure every 5 minutes.
74 - every 10 minutes
87 - every 10 minutes
so fits.
6 every 9 minutes, so no other service can fit in the rules.

It's worth reflecting that many of the people involved with the museums and preserved buses here would have been referred to as 'veg' in yesteryear or its equivalent of the time, in the way some people are now - in my view it's a pity it was felt necessary to keep this event private - let's hope we don't get any repetition of 'private' heritage events - operating in private as well as public areas - I think the heritage movement need all the help they can get rather than operating as some sort of exclusive elite!!

Doubt museums will hold private events as they need the money to survive and pay for costly restorations and keep buses on the road in good condition

I guess it was down to TfWM etc, but it still seems a pity to make it 'exclusive' to the extent of the apparent secrecy in advance.

I guess the answer is yes, because you can probably guess what would have happened...
...you'd have had loads of people turning up trying to get into a closed bus station, and you'd have ended up with some cretins breaking in and 'trespassing' on what is now private property.

Does it require a shelter for Unload Only? Waste of money a Pole Stop would have made sense. To have an empty unused shelter sitting there when there's about 3/4 in the surrounding area overflowing makes no sense.

Yes I was there myself watching, I wasn't the only one who thought the same either. Waiting for a 87 that ended up arriving half an hour late.

More of a comment about Dudley town centre than the bus stands.
I travelled on a 126 to Dudley on Sunday, arriving just before 12 noon. There was alot of activity around the new stands but things seemed to be working OK, especially considering it was the first day.
What I found sad was that after Burnt Tree (Tesco), I was the only passenger on the bus. I know of course that Merry Hill sucked the life out of Dudley town centre, but I hope this isn't typical. Is Dudley normally worth visiting on a Sunday?

I went over to Dudley this afternoon to have a nose around and see what progress was being made with the new bus station, sorry, transport interchange.
Considering it's been nearly a year since it was closed, and the work was supposed to take 18 months to complete, I really can't see this being completed and opened by the summer.
The old structures have gone, and so has Farm Foods. Apart from a few piles of rubble scattered around, the original carriageways are still visible. The Metro stops are completed, with platforms built and shelters in-situ, but there's no way that trams can use them as the tracks have been tarmacked over at the site entrance on Porters Field.
(So much for Andy Street's promise of having Metro trams reaching Dudley by the end of 2024!)
Unless some serious progress can be made in the next six months, we might see this completed before Christmas 2025, but realistically I think we're looking at early 2026.

Yes, I could see where it looks like a new access road to the station is being built, joining onto St Josephs Road?
I will go back again in a couple of weeks and have another look and get some photos, unfortunately it was a bit too foggy up there today to get any decent shots.
Added to the eeriness though, that whole area around the bus station was dead and lifeless, apart from a couple of crows and a pigeon.
It's going to take more than a fancy new 'transport interchange' to attract people into Dudley town centre again.
