Is the 9/9A a commercial service or tendered?

I am not aware of it being tendered directly but I think WCC gives Hollands some money towards the 9/9A. But as I say they have been running the service for so long Hollands and WCC might have some kind of long term deal.

@Reece VOSA still show the service as registered and Traveline have a timetable for the 220, albeit just 1 trip each way on Wednesdays.

Does the service carry many passengers? I wonder if Diamond or another might provide a replacement service

Well they use mini buses on the 9/9A the service is hourly and has some good loadings thought out the day as it is the only bus that servers the large village of Cookley and the smaller village of Caunsall.

If Diamonds  7 was extended  to turn right at the top of sion hill along  the wolverley road then left on to the A449  to serve cookley/caunsall . and returning along the a449  in to broadwaters  and the follow the current 7 route   that would  cover about 99% of the 9/9a  . as futher along the 7 route the routes run over same ground and the bit that would be missed  very lightly used

One problem with that most journeys on the 7 only carry 1-5 passengers mainly passes. The only reason the 7 is commercially viable is because it interworks with the 192 which is actually commercially viable. If the 7 was extended to Cookley it would add at minimum a extra 20 mins to the journey time on a good day and that doesn't include serving Caunsall which would take another 10-15 mins to do and get back to Cookley. All together the extra journey time would be getting on for 30-40 mins with traffic and loading time. This in turn would mean the 7/192 which currently interworks would have to have a extra bus in the allocation and that means a extra bus and driver which Diamond Kidderminster depot just doesn't have. They can barely cover the services they have got it stretched to say the least at the moment.

I have never seen a 7 with a full load for example the last 7 of day yesterday only had 2 passengers the most I have ever seen on the 7 since it was taken over by Diamond is about 15-17 people and that was on a nice sunny day in the summer.

Long shot, but what chance if anyone does take it on and want to make it commercial then attempt an extension up to Kinver or Stourbridge?

Or WCC could amend the 580 to send it via Cookley and Caunsall to Kinver?

no to sending the 580 that way as it goes a different way , if it was changed to go that way  after cookley /caunsall  it would be just along the  a449 with  no villiages along the way and  the way to Stourbridge  is along a diiferent  road,to me extending the 7  is the easy way  and not interworking it with  the 192

Based on the comments & the fact it was a commercial service, I wouldn't be surprised to see Diamond register a replacement service and add it to their network, it would only require one MPD even if it was to stay in it's current format.

From 10th April the daytime frequency of the 3's will drop, as will the Pvr and driver requirements.

They only have one other route which is just one run each way and Wednesday only.   as far as I am aware the do not have any full size vehicles . only various sizes of mini bus  they do contract work  for  Wcc  schools and day centres  quite a few of the vehicles I would class as welfare buses.  this  was a shock to me as they have been running that route since midland red  stopped  running to the villages each one had it's own service,   I am talking there about the NBC map days.

Traveline currently has the 9 9/A services running until May 20th:

http://www.travelinemidlands.co.uk/wmtis/XSLT_TTB_REQUEST?language=en&command=direct&net=twm&line=0909A&sup=A&itdLPxx_direction=H&project=y11&outputFormat=0&itdLPxx_displayHeader=false&itdLPxx_sessionID=CEN_EFA02_2415352965&lineVer=1&itdLPxx_spTr=1&itdLPxx_operatorCodeForTTB=HOC

So is that it then for these services, seems strange that they might end with no replacement with no fuss from the communities affected.

seams strange as it was not tenderd route , have heard of another operator gaining another route , do not know if it is the 9/9a. know which operator it is supposed  to be but not  100% sure so I am not naming it, nor will if anyone asks because it is not in the public domain yet  and things may change

It Seams  that is   the case  ,  a  diamond bus did pull up at  the stop it used  displaying   nothing on the screen, and people did get on  so  I wonder if there could be a diamond  replacement ? take a look a travel line west midlands  if you type in  Kidderminster to cookley       it gives some strange ways of getting there  like the 4a/192/580   the 4a and the580 go nowhere near cookley  and the only 192 journey to go there is a school run

I'd be surprised if Diamond didn't add the route to their KR network if is was a viable option

could well do , diamond are also advertising for drivers down here as well .  I have seen a white dart  with no  markings on in Kidderminster today on the a449
last digits of  reg  where   either  rp or pr   that's all a caught , it had roller number blinds showing  c11  . the way it was  traveling on the a449 was coming from the cookley  direction   only driver on board

Yes I have some more information about it and it turns this is going to be only funded by WCC for 6 months on a use it or lose it basis.
