Title: Buses I've Driven (in case anyone's interested)
Post by: MW on August 22, 2015, 01:15:17 AM
I make a note of every bus I've driven in service. Was just updating my notes, thought I'd share in case anyone is interested (I doubt anyone will be but hey!)

If any other drivers have a record, feel free to share.

I actually remember that one specifically. Only one I managed to get the cooling fans come on.

What's 2206 like @MW

I drove 2206 on its second day in service. On its first, it broke down not even an hour in service. When I had it, it broke down too. The alternator went. It was very underpowered. Must be repaired and like the rest now.

There's only five types I've driven here at AG. Easily I prefer the Gemini, but it has to be a good one. I am keen to try other vehicles like ALX/E 400s.

It's a good idea to keep a note of what you have driven each time you drive in case anything happens. Came in handy on my coach days when the boss came to me with a speeding ticket as it was my allocated vehicle. Quick check of the diary told me that day I was driving his allocated coach as it was a team coach lol. Guess who was driving mine!! It's a good arse covering exercise, as well as taking an interest too.

Thanks for posting - quite good to keep a log - what did you think of 4651? Thought it was excellent as a passenger yesterday.

I can't remember anything bad with that one so it can't be bad.

I've come to a conclusion on my most favourite bus out of all of them now. It's only imperfection is, sometimes the cooling fans can stay on a tiny bit longer than normal. 4637 is the one :D

@MW

Had 4637 before and that one was spot on - good choice!  :D

This will be the last one, but what was the best Scania you drove?

Yet to here the cooling fans on the 200MMCs - had 2203 the other day with the stop start which caused some remarks amongst passengers when it occured!

@BU07 LGO how do you find the seat adjustment in the MMCs? The single deckers have those annoying wind things, not sure if all ADLs have that. Volvos seem to be a much more comfortable cab! The seat takes ages to get right on the MMCs and doesn't go low enough! And the leather is horrible in the heat!

@MW

Don't think I'd fancy leather for the driving seat - prefer normal cushioning. Best cab seat I sat in was a Scania Omnilink - air adjustment and very comfy. Think most of the YW ones don't have the "bounce function" if that makes any sort of sense - where they go up and down in response to the movement of the bus. Think I'd prefer not having that as well!

Yeah the platinums have them too luckily I was comfy as it was in the two I had but I like the leather seat you know its clean compared to fabric that hides all sorts! A lot of drivers sit on metro papers for that reason. The older ones have a button that you press to lift front and another for the back of the seat

Off the top of my head, I've had

All of our Current Gemini's, including 4524, 4525 and 4526

Most of our Current ALX400s (4235-46, 4252-7, 4276-91). I don't recall ever having 4241 as I wanted to drive it in TWM livery (as it was the last one)
Also had WB 4269. Plus 4300-4 when we had them

All ex-Coventry OmniLinks and 1905-7
All of 1837 to 1847, as well as BY 1800
7025, 7027 (first bus in service), 7029 to 7033

All MK2 Enviro400s (33s and Suttons)

4801, 4802, 4812, 4822

All OmniCltys

The only 2 buses I recall driving in TWM livery are 4779 (type training) and 1842 on the 28 a couple of times

I've always wanted to ask a driver so I shall but have you noticed if a bus drives differently depending on the route ?!

What do you mean by that? In my case, the 11 is the busiest route I drive and when it's full, it obviously drives noticeably slower and longer to brake? Is that what you mean?

Logically it'll drive different on different routes as the roads are different.

I figured as much, thought worth an ask

I started to like Geminis while I used to ride the 5/31 and they were really smooth buses, they were a dream although I've been taking the 11 as of late for work and the Geminis now come across quite bumpy.

A lot of the roads on the 11 are bumpy to be fair, particularly the North (or the busy) section of the route. That being between Erdington and Bearwood (via Perry Barr, Handsworth for those who don't know what North is).

No, when I was at Head Office Coventry & Walsall didn't use office staff, and they had all left Walsall by the time I moved there permanently
