It has been suggested elsewhere that First Leicester are due to receive the entire batch of E400's that remained at First London's Dagenham depot up until it closed, obviously once they have been refurbished/converted to single door.
I think they are all 08/58 plates formerly DN33504/33506-8 & 33544-33574 (35 total)
Thats good news if true, first leicester desperately need new buses to replace an ageing fleet

Whether Leicester are still destined to receive the full batch I don't know, as it had all gone quiet up until your post. Not sure where they are being refurbished?
If Leicester do receive the full batch it will certainly make a big improvement to quality / age profile of the fleet

So they're not necessarily going to be used to replace the oldest of the current deckers then. I.e. the W-reg & 51-reg ALX400's
Those refurbished E400's should definitely make a big impact, I wonder if FL might choose to introduce them in one hit once all are refurbished

They were from First London's Dagenham depot/allocation which was the only depot that wasn't sold to Tower Transit or Metroline as the bulk of the routes were lost on re-tender to Stagecoach London

All vehicles must have two doors, so in London it is not a requirement to have an emergency door, once they are converted to single door it is a legal requirement

It makes you wonder why they don't order the Enviros with the offside exit fitted to make it easier to cascade to regional fleets in future...

Because the law states that all buses must have 2 buses minimum so it saves some door componants until cascading?

What about those bubble cars of the 70's? Or was it more recent legislation?
Going back to Ton'ys post. More Gemini's in Stoke would be a good idea to upgrade the 101 which would allow OmniCities to replace the worst Ultralows
First have just confirmed on their website that they are investing £5.9 million in 35 buses for Leicester.
They have also confirmed that the new buses will replace a mixture of saloons and deckers currently in the Leicester fleet which will be cascaded to other depots.

Is that figure of £5.9 million not bending the truth a little? that would make 5 year old refurbished double deckers worth £168.6k each

It might have been what they were worth new, but doubt they are worth anywhere near that now at 5 yrs old despite being refurbished, typical First.......

Article in RouteOne says they are for routes 14, 22/A and 54. Replacing mainly single deckers, and the Gemini's which may be going to Potteries.
They will gain branding for these routes in the new year.

It is looking like Potteries will gain 22 vehicles from Leicester, 5 Geminis and 17 Eclipse single deck, not sure if this is all 17 B7RLEs, or a mix of B7Ls and B7RLEs
I think Potteries would get B7RLE's as I believe one of First's plans for next year is to whittle down the B7L fleet but how definate that is I don't know.

Lol they've forgot they still own it... To be fair, does worcester and hereford need much work vehicle wise or just in terms of network? And Leicester seems fairly modern though clearly not as modern as NXWM and investment has been a bit patchy though apparently the b7ls aren't brilliant...

I agree, but a large proportion of the WR & HD fleets are 54 plate & older. Even the E300's on the 144 seem to be suffering more regular breakdowns
Potteries don't have any B10's unless I missed something. As i said. Those Ultralows are ok just a case of them being in the same league as some members of the NXWM fleet, at the end of their life and I have to say I prefer the Fiolines. I am interested to see what Potteries will do with their new intake if and when it happens of course
for me I now look forward to the current enviros in London being rehomed as virtually all have air conditioning/air cooling units. This is a feature I think is brilliant, just hope first don't disconnect them!

Yes of course, forgot that Bristol had received the extra Geminis
15 of the 35 new (ish) Enviro's are now at Leicester but none are in service as driver training as taking longer than expected. They also expect 5 Gemini's to eventually transfer to Essex for use at Hadleigh depot

Is there any word as to when these Enviro400s will start to enter service?
About a dozen are already in service with several Gemini transferred to Hadleigh depot last night

Ah right, thanks Tony. I will have to try and get up to Leicester soon
Very disappointed on the one I travelled on today. Dark, dirty already and some filler in cracks in the ceiling upstairs already. Would have got another one but driver failed to stop for me.

Sounds like your experience was quite negative, unfortunately. Bit of a long shot but I doubt you got any photos of the 'crack'? (Or the shoddy repair job)

I did take a photo but it is not clear enough to see the crack.

There's a double meaning in that...
Someone on another forum has heard that the Leicester Enviro 400s have had a problem with wheelchair access, and that some seats have had to be removed. (?)
If anyone has any factual info. or confirmation I'd be interested.
Ta.

Yes some of them did have a minor problem but it was sorted quickly by Thorntons who are refurbishing them, they do have some problems with certain types of pushchairs as they struggle to get on them otherwise they're lovely buses.
I think they look good inside and out and are spotless (for all of a week)
I noted about a dozen in service last saturday mostly on 54's and one on 38/A's.
When are the various Volvo's expected to be transferred out to Stoke and Great Yarmouth?
Most of the early Alx400's have left Leicester now with only about three left in service but most of the single deckers that are due to leave are still in service.
Thorntons are back at Abbey Lane removing two seats and fitting a partition between the doorside seats and wheelchair bay making the Enviro 400's 26 seats downstairs compared to 28 when the first refurbished ones entered service.
Thanks for the updates, everyone.
Are stoke getting b7l's or the b7rle's?
Adderley Green to get B7L's - 66303 - 66313
Newcastle to get B7RLE's - 66841 66845 66849 66962 66963 66964 plus ALX400's 32053 - 32057
Just to add 32062 and 32063 are now in service at Great Yarmouth
33573 has now been branded for the 54

I'm told from First South Yorkshire sources that all of the Leicester E400's that were stored in Olive Grove's top yard have since departed so there is room for their own new intake of "lamposts" (Streetlies). If that's true would it be right to assume they are all on the road in Leicester now? The branding if I'm honest isn't as good as normal First route brandings but that's just me
Only the PVR of the 54 (12) and a few others are in service but when I spoke to a first rep at the launch event he said they will have the 12 for 22's out very soon.
33507 has also been branded for the 54 now.

33561's turn to be branded, this time in blue for the 22

Anything I have previously said in this thread may have been dud gen (I should sleep more at night to avoid losing the ability to count lol)
Some definate gen is that 32065 touched down at Great Yarmouth a few days ago.
6 E400's are being delivered from Rotherham to Leicester next tuesday with "loads" still there

I think those six will be the last 6. Certainly cannot be loads still there
I also think and did initially think these would be the last 6 to touch down so maybe I can count but we shall see

The 22 Blue Line has quite a number of Enviro400's out (not the full PVR of 12 though) while the 54 has a full set of 12 out but I understand the 11 for the 14/14a Orange Line should be out on the road by the end of the month.
I wasn't keen on the branding when I seen 33573 on show last week but it's starting too look nice now I've seen it a few times and the interior branding is by far the best feature.
Here is the 14/A branding

The final three E400s were delivered to Leicester's Abbey Lane depot on 29/04/2014, from storage at Midland Road, Rotherham. Those being 33506, 33547 and 33550.
As at 09/05/2014, 33 out of the 35 E400s had been noted in service. The only 2 to have not been seen are: 33506 & 33508.
The 74 is now using branded Enviro400s
