Can anyone confirm if the 'official' list of garage short-codes is as follows?
AG - Acocks Green
BC - Birmingham Central
BY - Bordesley Green
CV - Coventry
PB - Perry Barr
PE - Pensnett
WA - Walsall
WB - West Bromwich
WN - Wolverhampton
YW - Yardley Wood
I only ask, because several people keep referring to Pensnett as 'PN' and Wolverhampton as 'PL', however Tony's fleetlists show the garage codes as above, and other websites do also. (And I like to think that Tony's judgement is indeed correct!)
I suppose to satisfy my pedant curiosity I could just travel around and buy a cash ticket from a bus from every garage, but I just thought this might save me some money instead! ;)
Stu,
Pensnett garage do use PN as the garage code on their tickets, but as Tony's Fleetlists still show PE, I suspect that HQ still view Pensentt's code as PE?
I usually call Wolverhampton Garage WN but sometimes just use PL

Garage codes have certainly been used for many years. In the past you has the likes of SO, CE, HE, QN, OY, DY, HL, SN, SE, S, H.... I could go on. Sadly all now long gone.
Coventry used to be WT (Wheatley Street) but was changed to CV to reflect the city, rather than the specific street location.
I think this is a complete list going back to the formation of the PTE:
AG Summer Road, ACOCKS GREEN
BL Mount Pleasant, BILSTON
BS Bilston Street, WOLVERHAMPTON
BY Victoria Street, BORDESLEY
CC Lords Drive, WALSALL
CE Pershore Road, COTTERIDGE
CL Cleveland Road, WOLVERHAMPTON
CR Coventry Road, SMALL HEATH
DY Birmingham Road, DUDLEY
ER Elliott Road, SELLY OAK
HE Lonsdale Road, HARBORNE
HL Dudley Road, HARTSHILL
HN Harnall Lane, COVENTRY
HY Whitmore Street, HOCKLEY
LH Crossfield Road, LEA HALL
LS Liverpool Street, BIRMINGHAM (now BC)
MH Second Avenue, PENSNETT (now PE)
MR Moseley Road, MOSELEY
MS Miller Street, NEWTOWN
MW Bean Road, COSELEY
OY Wolverhampton New Road, OLDBURY
PB Wellhead Lane, PERRY BARR
PL Park Lane, WOLVERHAMPTON (now WN)
QN Ridgeacre Lane, QUINTON
SE Foster Street, STOURBRIDGE
SH Sheepcote Street, BIRMINGHAM
SN Upper Holland Street, SUTTON COLDFIELD
SO Harborne Lane, SELLY OAK
SY Sandy Lane, COVENTRY
WA Bloxwich Road, BIRCHILLS
WB Oak Lane, WEST BROMWICH
WH Washwood Heath Road, WASHWOOD HEATH
WT Wheatley Street, COVENTRY (now CV)
YB ALCESTER
YW Yardley Wood Road, YARDLEY WOOD
I think WN (PL) should be changed to DR...

Or BC2 ;D ;D
Or BY2 ;D ;D ;D
I believe Cleveland Road was CR, the green windscreen garage stickers were anyway, and Coventry Road I have I a couple of old fleet lists as CV

Yes, they have. Back in the day, there used to be a round sticker in the front windscreen, showing the garage code.

Yes, it also ran the 44, and I think, didn't it also run the South West Link (SWL) and 921 for a time using refurbished Lynxs?

This sticker showed buses that had radios fitted to them. This was in the days when not all buses had radios installed.
So for example if a driver of a non-radio bus needed to contact Control, he could identify another bus that had a radio and aske the driver of that bus to contact Control.

Yes I think it did, didn't it have an allocation of around 20?
