I have added that to the list to be sorted.
6804 and 6824 *ARE* tracking. However, They're tracking on other routes as X4 for some reason. 6806 is on 67 and 6824 is on 907 today.
4539 is tracking but is showing route 79 even though it is on the 82, it also happened on Saturday when it was on the 15 and 16 it was tracking as the 79

On the NX system 6804, 6824 & 4539 are not showing any route details so I presume bustimes is just holding on to the service number it failed on. Thanks for the report of 4539, now reported for fixing.

Please stop keep guessing stuff off bustimes. Two of the vehicles in your list of buses apparently not showing routes were two I have driven today. 4442 on transfer BC to WN and 4544 WB to WA for accident repairs to be painted, so I know very well you have not seen them in service

It's just it stopped working while it was on the X21 and that number has stuck.

Services SFA1/2 (and I think CG4) have disappeared off bus times this morning. Not sure if this is intentional or not. I hope not as it is very useful to check on to try and avoid the 'oh you're not ready but there goes the bus, now we will have to chase after it again' game. Can they be re-instated please?

4595 did the SFA1 this morning. It tracked properly on the NX system and shows on the map, so that doesn't seem to be an NX problem

Hi Tony, 431 seems to have an issue with it's tracking this morning. It is showing on the WN11 intermittently, but it's tracking keeps jumping between the actual position and 0,0 in the Gulf of Guinea.

This thread isn't a 'competition' - it is meant to be a 'helping hand'. Vehicles that do not appear to have tracked on BusTimes for a period of time could be genuinely 'off-road' for various reasons - hence why they haven't tracked or updated.
Unless you have seen a particular vehicle out in service, and can state on what route and where you saw it, please don't waste peoples' time by posting in this thread.

As has been pointed out numerous times already, the point of this topic is to inform of
"vehicles seen in service but not showing on BusTimes"
Buses can stop tracking on BusTimes for various reasons, including being out of service or unused.
What Tony is looking for help with is vehicles that are actually out and about in active service, but are not tracking due to equipment or system failures, ie an actual 'defect'.
So in a nutshell, if you physically see a bus in active service on a route, and it is not showing up on BusTimes, then please feel free to report it here in this topic.
4870 has stopped tracking since Monday. Saw it on the X51 earlier at 15:40 off Walsall, and it wasn't showing on bustimes.org at all.
4778 appears to track, although does so without a service number

So far this bus has worked trips 25, 34, 31, 40, 39, 48, 45, 54, 53, 62, 61, 70 and 69. The "current" trip being worked is N10A trip 82.
The problem is that the locations being reported are those that occurred sometime in the past. A possible reason why bustimes is showing nothing on their website.
It appears as if there is a bottleneck in the system somewhere between the tracker and the server storing the current location for this bus.
Tracking this bus over the last 30 mins, the time difference between actual time when the sample was taken and the time last recorded from the bus, is getting shorter and shorter. Down to 15 mins, from 45, as if the bus is catching up with itself.
So don't be alarmed if you see two trails of burning flames down Compton Road, and a flash of blinding light as the 2071 comes "back to the future"!

Correct, there is nothing wrong with BusTimes and there is nothing they can do about this.
The issue is that NX West Midlands' data feed is currently showing as 'Inactive' in BODS:

The reason for this I do not know, there will be some 'technical issue' somewhere which I am sure is being worked on.
The lack of any hydrogens showing on 51 was mildly irritating but the complete lack of any NXWM buses on Bustimes is a real bu**er for us armchair enthusiasts (in my case unless I'm in the region - which is not often).
I did have a quick look at Stagecoach Midlands wondering if the sudden turn off had anything to do with the Stagecoach takeover but theirs are all there.
One positive thing - you can see where all the Diamondbuses are at a glance - and how they seem to bunch on the 31/32 and 4 services - must be down to the Christmas shopping traffic congestion ;D"

For those members thinking it's only used by armchair bus spotters, then you've overlooked the people (bus passengers) who use it to find out where the bus they're waiting for really is and for other passenger related purposes. I've used it when visiting towns I'm not familiar with and it really is good. So the fact none of the NX West Midlands buses have been visible for a week or more is no doubt very irritating for a range of people.

The problem has now been identified and it is at BODS, the middle man between the company and the tracking websites, so we are waiting for them to fix it.

When they were tracking before whenever a bus traveled it would either show a route number, DEAD or they tracked without a route number or DEAD on where as since they have started tracking again they only show as DEAD or a route number which is probably why it says that some buses haven't been out since December

I would like to understand why the issues affecting these trackers have not been addressed. Why are they left broken for days on end?
4458 is an issue, in that by pending it is working N15, means its journeys don't register correctly for service N15 or the service this vehicle is actually working.
Important for systems that monitor NX feeds for Emission compliance. Where this 18 year old non-compliant vehicle, dumped into Park Lane from BC in exchange for a compliant vehicle so that NX avoid paying Brummy Clean Air Zone charges, would be doing fewer turns working N15 through Wolverhampton AQPS zone than it actually does when working the likes of N2 - which are not logged as N2 journeys, due to a faulty tracker. Thus not only lowering the total number of journeys logged through the AQPS zone, but also the number of non-compliant journeys, thus increasing the percentage of compliance journeys made that day, ensuring +75% Euro 6 compliance target is met.
And, in the process, annoy NX Customers by providing false readings to real-time departure boards, wrongly reporting the need to double the waiting time for the next service, thus increasing the chance of finding an alternative method of travel.

I do a full check on the whole fleet approximately once every two weeks, but ones reported on here get reported normally the next day, so it helps get them sorted quicker.

Tony checks these as a courtesy, not a requisite, for which we are very grateful. I'm sure this service reduces the number of faulty trackers that enhances the passenger experience.

The four buses (4458,6780,6787,6793) are located at Park Lane Garage, where the PL fleet size to operate the 30 services into Wolverhampton City Centre on mon-fri schedule would imply around 2.4% of the fleet is not tracking.
Translate that into journeys, with all four in service, depending what board is worked, could amount to around 3.1% of journeys on city's network not tracking.

845 to the list, and that rises to 3.5% vehicles failing to track, with around 4.7% journeys not tracking, enough for an entire route plus a few interworked journeys to be offline for a day.

Trackers play a vital role in public transport management, not just to help operators monitor their own vehicles.
The Bus Services Act 2017 requires operators of local bus services in England to publish data to the Bus Open Data Service (BODS). This is what the Government is for. Providing the legislative framework to ensure information that was not available in the public domain, can be gathered at source, to be made available free of charge to anyone who wishes to use that information to improve bus services.
From 7th Jan 2021, it is a requirement for all operators in England to publish their vehicle locations to BODS.
Not only are passengers inconvenienced by faulty trackers, but so are the systems that tap into BOD feeds, to analyse the data to produce statistical reports, for example, monitor journey times, number and types of vehicles used, seat capacity during the day, etc. where the data acquired must meet certain tolerances, in order for the statistics to be valid.
The margin for error created by the four PL buses I highlighted can provide the difference to take NX under/over the AQPS emission compliance threshold for journeys into Wolverhampton AQPS Zone for a mon-fri schedule, where in response to a need for NX to cut operating costs, due to a fall in revenue and patronage, that resulted in a 10% cut in bus NX journeys across Wolverhampton applied in Autumn 2021, has changed the dynamics of the network and the vehicles required to fulfil the schedule, where trackers supply the evidence.
Given the Traffic Commissioner provides a window of tolerance for commercial operators in England to provide 95% of their scheduled service to operate between 1min early and 5 min late, why is this target not being met on PL Platinum routes?
Last week for D8,X8,529 of the % scheduled logged, that is a bus in service irrespective if late or not:

A lack of vehicles?
A company policy that provides a dedicated pool of staff for the fleet, that is in short supply due to the number of Platinum drivers self isolating after testing positive for COVID, where a conventional bus + driver is not available to cover?
Or the services are missing due to PL buses fitted with faulty bus trackers, where each tracker fitted ensures NX receives additional 2% Bus Service Operators Grant from UK Gov?
These are important issues for organisations compiling stats independent from the operator, thanks to UK Gov BODS initiative. Stats that could also be used to support or counter claims made by the operator(s) to ensure services are improved.

I am not criticising Tony, I think he is being let down by his employer, or by the contractors who supply/maintain the trackers.
NX don't appear to appreciate the problem or have a proper strategy in place to provide their staff with the necessary tools and procedures to get the job done properly.

I totally agree, the idea that someone is watching over 1500 trackers waiting for one to fail is ludicrous, as is waiting 2 weeks to do a full fleet check to see if any have failed, while bus enthusiasts, who hunt for buses as part of their hobby, can use this forum to report issues they find with trackers using the likes of bustimes.org.

West Midlands Travel Ltd. is a company with a multimillion-pound turn over, that spends millions of pounds (our bus fares) on the likes of Traffilog (https://www.traffilog.com) and CitySwift (https://cityswift.com/) - but relies on bus enthusiasts via this website to provide up-to-date intel on the vehicles that have issues tracking?
All trackers should be pinged at regular intervals by a central server to check their status. If an error is detected, an SMS message or email would be sent from the server to alert the persons required to bring the faulty tracker back online ASAP. If the device needs hardware attention, the relevant Garage is notified, to ensure when the bus returns, the device is serviced to ensure it is working before the vehicle enters service the next day.
And which jobs are under threat pending the Stagecoach merger? The IT jobs at NX Digbeth HQ.
The longest missing bus of the tracking system, 4496, has now woken up. The problem was caused by voltage errors which are not two minute jobs to either trace or fix and is the reason for most of the longer term missing ones. The majority just need a message sent remotely from the tracker company to wake up and normally do the same day as they are reported

That one is different as it is tracking it location, so the device is working, but it is not sending the ticket machine information through. It has not been on the road, or even in the West Midlands for a lot of the time it hasn't tracked, making it impossible for the engineers from Traffilog to visit it.
2140 seemed to be tracking fine yesterday and this morning, but it's stopped again today on the 11/11A.

Walsall, not Park Lane, but yes it seems that vehicles out of use on 16th December when the BODS feed last failed don't start tracking again without a bit of help when they re-enter service. I'll report it now, hopefully be fixed on Monday

I did notice it not tracking this morning, and reported it which is why you suddenly saw it start half way through the journey this morning

It's been reported to the tracking company twice in that time, they seem to be having trouble fixing that one

Not sure whether it's a problem with the West Midlands API? It's been intermittent today with all vehicles disappearing every so often.
So 6946, tracking has died again. It was on the X12 today but hasn't been tracking since Monday.

Just travelled home on 4724 on the 3 - probably not tracking due to system failure; the smartcard reader was displaying a red error (something about no route/journey set) and as I was disembarking I noticed on the Init screen that there was no route/journey information displayed.

That's an odd one. When it did the 35 running board earlier it worked perfectly. It is currently showing me some information so hasn't failed completely. I'll wait until tomorrow before reporting that one

Yeah, looks like whatever the problem was it was resolved - probably just needed a 'reboot' - it was back out on the 35 this morning but seems to have gone back to garage now.

I caught a Gemini on 94 at 18:30 ex City getting off at Ward End about 7. Non show up on the tracking at that time though. Ticket machine said it was running 27 minutes down.

It seems to be mostly tracking fine, however it does occasionally 'drop out'. Looking at all its journeys today, it looks like its GPS co-ordinates are being mixed up with some other vehicle (possibly a coach?) that travelled from Exeter to Bristol, then along the M4 and M25.

Yes it is having problems, only tracking around 50% of the time with poor GPS location, so I have reported it, but when I just checked it was on the 2030 journey, just on the railway line, not Wednesbury Road!

The BODS feed has recently been changed from the Traffilog kit fitted in the buses to the Vix Horizons Feed. This won't mean much to anyone but Traffilog is whole fleet while Vix is garage . This means the feed is more reliable, but transfers and Loan's don't show until it is next updated. TfWM control the updates and is usually done just before timetable changes

4348 tracking today as I've seen it.
It wasn't this morning, It was stuck in Walsall garage whatever route it was on, but seems to have started following the routes around 15:00

Most of the area is the same with some vehicles not tracking but the ones that are tracking aren't updating the location for up to 10 minutes or more

That'll be a data feed or BusTimes issue, not vehicle specific, which is the purpose of this topic.

Yes I seen both buses in Walsall, but the tracking was playing up, but when 6782 was in Walsall on the 529 stand on bus times it was showing 6779 was on the 529 stand, that's why I thought it was a tracking error, I do appologise I didn't mind to cause any problems to anyone.

There's several bits of kit involved and it can be any of them, or the signals between the different bits of kit
Sounds like a nightmare to sort then
E119, 4905, 6863, 6816, 7019, 7026, 1858, 1878, 1940, 4730 all fixed overnight, so the list looks a bit better

It's averaging about 93% tracking each journey it does, so not perfect, but pretty reliable

They are completely not tracking, nothing for any Walsall, Wolverhampton or Pensnett vehicles are showing on the map or on the fleetlist

Yeah I've checked the one exception is 4981 which tracked on the midnight 16 departure from Stourbridge to Wolverhampton but is saying it should be the 09:35 departure. I didn't check to see if it had actually done the 16. Even 4764 a WB Bus isn't Tracking on the 51 so loan veichles aren't Tracking either so both buses and routes from the garages are not Tracking as I expected 4764 to at least track on the 51 being a WB Bus

Yeah I gathered as if it was a Veichle Issue 4764, 6761, 6762, 4959 and so on would be Tracking as they aren't Based At Walsall for example.
Anyone know what is going on with 6861 it's tracking on the 1 but it's not on the 1 route and you click the journey and it's been everywhere just tracking as one long journey.

It is tracking location correctly, but is not reporting the correct route and journey (defaulting to route 1 and journey 1)

For some reason lots of buses keep tracking as the 1 it's not just 6861 I've seen it with 6758 and 5509 too and it's always the 06:35, is it just a error with the system?

Whatever bus is due to do the 11:01 34 to Bilston and 11:24 37 To Willenhall aren't Tracking and the 39 isn't tracking at all. I am unable to make out the Fleet number of the 11:01 as I am a bit far from it. And I figured there is a veichle missing on the 37 as only 1841 is showing and the 37 usually has two veichles. It appears the two veichles there might be 3 not Tracking I Haven't figured it out Now I have got back are an E200 looking at the list 803 or 804 and a BV57 Omnilink in Crimson as it had a no side price branding and I know the 57 plates don't have any Price Branding

1835 not tracking on the 4M
2168 is showing the route but no location tracking
I notice any veichle on the WA39 doesn't track even if it tracked on the 34 in 37 before, some will show as going on to the 39 later on the bustimes veichle data but won't then display is this a timetable issue, as I know the 39 wouldn't have been running when the issue was fixed but the 70A and the 69 track as well as the 10A. Maybe it's the veichles but 860 was on it but not Tracking it had tracked as a 34 earlier in the morning

I would presume they are 1871 etc but 1953 wasn't the last to be delivered as 7019-7033 came after and they were delivered to WA before heading to Dundee. If memory serves they would have been numbered 1954 onwards but it was decided to send them to Dundee I could be wrong Tony will correct me if I'm wrong. And I presume 1914 should be 1918 as 1914 is withdrawn

I am fairly certain 7019-7033 were never at Walsall. I was based at Walsall in 2010, so would have photographed them if they were.

Strange one this as reported 1842 Tracking on the X51 it is actually on the 39 and is showing the 39 Route map but the actual 39 is not Tracking apart from 1842 on it at the moment the Veichle map is showing it on the 39 sorry the route map still isn't there. Very Strange as no other veichle on the 39 will show on it's GPS after the route has finished
