In the future when we have Sprint services and Cross-City services what service number could be used.

Firstly the hopefully near future Sprint service from Walsall to Solihull replacing the 51 and X1:
Will it be 51 along the whole route or X2, or could it be a completely new type of service number

Secondly the proposed Cross-City service replacing 50, 82 and 87:
Will it be 82/87 along the whole route or 50/50A, or again could it be a completely new type of service number

National Express West Midlands / 24th July changes
June 18, 2022, 11:02:31 AM
This has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum a while back, but commencing 24th July, the 14 will be shortened to terminate at Chelmsley Wood Interchange with the 72 being extended via Yorkminster Drive to Bluebell Drive, the 72A is replaced by 72 journeys.

I thought it would be a bit of fun to predict what might happen to buses (routes, vehicles etc) in 2022.

I'll start with the new Sprint service being numbered with an 'S' prefix as follows:
S1 Walsall - Perry Barr - Birmingham - Sheldon - Airport/NEC
S2 Walsall - Perry Barr - Birmingham - Sheldon - Solihull.

Other predictions:
Diamond to change the 96 to include a variation to New Oscott as 96A to replace the 89.
NX 41 Acocks Green - QE, 46 QE - Northfield, 48 West Brom - Northfield to all change again with the 41 extending to Hawkesley via 46 route, 48 to extend to Hawkesley via 46 route. 46 withdrawn.

Some of the new timetables which commence from 18th April have appeared on the timetable section of the NX website. I'm glad to see the 28 is going to every 10 minutes. But some of the other timetables I've searched have 'then at frequent intervals' on them which is useless. I'm not expecting every journey to be mentioned, but routes like the 35 which also state 'then at frequent intervals' is ridiculous because the 35 has been every 10 minutes for years so why not put 'approx every 10 minutes' instead.

Surprising news that Arriva to sell Cannock garage to D & G

I wonder how long it will take for the "why didn't NX buy it" comments to start ?

X1 will be every 15 minutes to Airport and every 30 minutes to Coventry, the X2 increased to every 15 minutes both services every 7-8 minutes

X12 revised to serve Birmingham Business Park, X70 will have additional buses to Newport Road giving a bus every 20 minutes (every 30 minutes on Sundays) both services every 10 minutes to Bromford and Castle Bromwich (every 15 minutes on Sundays).

Some new timetables have appeared for date starting 31st May in the timetable section of the NXWM website when you search for a service, the 55 is most interesting because in states in red bold writing "Additional journeys may operate between Buckland End and City Centre during busy periods" I can't remember the last time I saw anything like this on a bus timetable, it was used a lot in PTE days.

Birmingham Live reports about McDonalds in Dale End to be demolished to allow the Metro to run via Lower Bull Street and End.

My Question is that where do the buses go because it would affect the 23, 24, X3, X4, X5, X14, 33, 51/X51, 907, 934-7, 997 and possibly the 2, 3, 4/A, 5, 6, 45 and 47.

4A reduced to every 15 mins, 4 increased to every 5-10 mins (the 5 mins combined frequency will remain) BUT on Saturdays AND Sundays the 4A will be every 20 mins, the 4 will be every 8-12 mins (combining every 6-8 mins)

I've been looking at some timetables on Traveline for Christmas Eve and I've noticed reduced frequencies on some routes, here are some of them:

X3/X4/X5 - every 30 minutes each (This is the one that has surprised me the most)
9 - every 12 minutes
17 - every 9 minutes
X21 - every 20 minutes
23/24 every 12 minutes each
28 - every 15 minutes
33 - every 12 minutes
45/47 - every 15 minutes each
65/67 - every 15 minutes each

There may be more, but I don't have a problem with this because Christmas Eve isn't the mad busy day that it used to be mainly due to shops being open longer hours. If this means some drivers will be able to spend more time with there families then that's good all round.
