Matt it's just a bit of fun if your just gonna be rude then don't look at the topic simple.
Anyone got any ideas for the 81 or 82???

Tbh the 26/62/A interwork and the 25/A interwork at the moment and it works well that way so there wouldn't be need to interwork them but i can see your way of thinking :)

Interworking five routes, that would be "a bit of fun"!

On top of that, Mercs are not really suitable for the 26/62/A but the 25/A loadings require full size single deckers at times
Yes well as i said just the 25 and 26 not A working and also today the 25 has been pretty much all b6 so if its not suitale then why do they continue to put them on there??

The 81 and 255 interworking now is it? So what buses would you operate it with?

Probaly mercs. Why are you being so rude?

To be honest, Interworking only makes sense for timetable requirements, reason, if you have traffic problems on one route, if you don't interwork it confines one set of buses to those problems. If you interwork, it starts to suck in many more buses and you start to get delays on other routes.

In the early 1980s under the old WMPTE, one driver at Stourbridge showed me his running board, it was horrendous, the bus he was on was changing routes all day. It must have done every single route except the 130.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Do you think Mercs would cope with 255 loadings Monday - Saturday?

I don't mean to be rude, but please think about some of your suggestions first. ;)

Trident 4609

Dom, The 255 wouldn't be able to work as the 255 NEEDS tridents as how busy it is whereas the 81 cannot have deckers

I would suggest interworking the 255, 255E, 256 & 257 :-)

Do you really need the 255E outside of peak hours, surely it would be better to withdraw it and make the whole route every 20 minutes.

The 255 interwork with the 256 at peaks. But off peak, the 255 interworks with the 255E & the 256 interworks with the 257

notepanel

The primary reason for routes interworking is to reduce the amount of buses being used (and therefore running costs).

One easy example was the old 366 evening service, which had a round trip time of around 1 hour & 10 minutes and operated hourly. This was interworked with the 332 evening service, which had a round trip time of 42 minutes.

If you ran each route individually the 332 would require 1 bus (which would sit in the bus station for 18 minutes between trips),  whilst the 366 would require 2 buses (which would sit in Walsall for 50 minutes between trips). By interworking, the two routes can be operated using two, rather than three buses.

Interworking would only really become a consideration if the route you were running has a frequency that doesn't fit nicely with the round trip time (I.e. a half hourly route, with a 31 minute round trip time). There are then many complications in finding a suitable route that not only fits nicely in terms of timetables & running times to interwork the service with, but if the other route can then use similar vehicles, would one route impact the reliability of the other etc.
