Stuharris 6360

Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Ashley

508 and 555 would have gone onto PM peak 11's. 598 would have done PM 716 then return to garage

5514 126 today. Haven't put it in the unusual workings thread because it's starting so get normal now

554 was today's 62. The ex PE B6's don't tend to be used on Sundays. (Usually the 62*/63*/64*)

Ashley

Think they'll just use the 5xx's every day of the week on 62's now inclluding sunday's. Personally i'd happily have a 6xx for a change because i'm a tad bored of the not so fantastic five now. 554 is the best of the five though, every seat i can fit in, super heating, drivers like it, sails up the hills no problem, has the best steering as well i've noticed

Better than 555? ???

Ashley

I'm sorry to say Matt but I hope 555 is the first to go. It's a shed

I never liked 554 when at PN, 555 was always my favourite, well apart from 502...

I'm sorry Ashley but either it is having a good day because it was still as good as ever on the 59 just :)

At Park Lane today:

As I was entering the garage about 08:50 WA based 4308 pulled out of the yard onto Park Lane towards Cannock Rd. I've been told it can't have been having an MOT so I wonder what it was doing there.

A fair few Spectra's in the yard today. I noted 4002 (In the garage),4004,4006 (being worked on),4009,4011,4012,4016 and 4022. 1685 was also in the yard alongside 5513

Ashley has perfectly valid reasons for disliking 555, as much as I like it, a fast bus is not necessarily a good one

Trident 4609

I suppose its just my opinion and of course Ashley is allowed to have his own opinion :)

Personally I still like it because it is fast and still sounds like a screaming cat ;)

Ashley

Don't get me wrong 555 still has a top noise and is fast but as Matt say's whichI agree with "A fast bus isn't always a good bus". Can think of a few examples where that quote is valid.

Just to add, 555's main faults are the footbrake, the bronze brake, the steering and the occassional leak but I'm not a mechanic, I'm just going on what I've noticed.

Bronze brake? - If a bus had brake faults it would not be on the road

Ashley

I've just been told by a driver it's called the "bronze brake" and on 555 it has a tendency to shoot up at random sometimes. For a time 555 used to vibrate very loudly when the brakes were on so every surrounding noise became inaudible.

I think you mean the Broms Brake. It is an extra automatic brake on Volvos to stop runaways. As soon as the air pressure gets too low to operate the footbrake the Broms Brake comes on to stop the vehicle running away. Even if you build the air pressure back up it stays on until you reset it by putting the button that has risen slightly back into the lower position. If the Broms brake comes on with the engine running it normally means the bus is not holding its full air pressure, but the low air warning should always sound before the Broms brake applies.
