I have just boarded an arriva bus from Walsall to Pelsall. As a nx travel card holder i just couldnt be bothered to wait for there 89 service. The bus 3762 is immaculate, nice and warm and no rattles. The fare was a standard £1.90 and i gave the driver a £2 coin, i was informed no change, now i dont mind that but a number of passengers boarding after me were also told the same. Is it not arriva policy to give chamge? And who gets all of those 10p? Ok rant over npw time for a beer in the Railway.

So what you need to consider is that the driver had probably not long started his shift, and that the passengers he had carried that day had probably mostly been paying £1.90 with £2, so it probably didn't take long for his 10p's to disappear, and when they have what is he supposed to do? Nobody ever bothers to get the correct change and therefore the driver never ends up with any. Arriva don't supply floats.

If a company says they give change then why should customers not be able to tender a £2 coim and not expect to be given change. If it were a £5, 10, or £20 note than i would understand the problem! A sorry from the driver would of been a start but just a basic lack of customer facimg skills.

Even with a float there is no infinite amount of 10p or 5p pieces available to drivers. They are on a bus not sat in a post office with a safe full of coins behind them. It is an age old problem. If no passenger pays with change, guess what, the driver will never have any.

At least arriva is 1 of few comanies in the midlands that do give change!! What if ur on a nxwm bus or midland? The fare costs 1.80 wimblebury to cannock wich is what I use, I put 2 pound in, who gets my 20p change at the end of the day when I imagine the safes are emptied??

All routes in my opinion should be exact change only. Much safer

Well that's easy to fix, you have the gear to reject or conditions to reject 1p 2p and 5p coins. which is more than reasonable in my books.

Anybody doing that the driver can legally refuse to accept. no more than 20 1p coins are legal tender in any one transacation!

All coins except £1; £2 and £5 coins have a maximum amout that is legal tender

Stuharris 6360

Was on a Green Bus 558 journey today and a woman got on and asked for a 50p fare (she had a nxwm travelcard). The driver told her he had no change, so she just gave him the £1 coin.

Later on in the journey, a couple of people got on and paid with change, yet the driver never made any effort to give the woman her change.

Surely this is not right!!!
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Must be the only one that does that now.

I remember when Diamond used to do it.

It came in handy on the 301.
