Was there, until the last few years of their life, a reason you never saw Nationals in regular service?

Remembering the old fleet lists, Walsall did have a few allocated, but you never saw them out & about.

Our primary school had one of the dual purpose ones one day, but I cant remember any more!

loads of nationals were reinstated to Walsall around 1994 including lots of DPs with new Volvo engines and some Daf ones. Prior to the Lynxes coming ( so say 1986-9) they were dead rare werent they. i remember catching a Timesaver silver one with my nan in on the 301 in Cannock about 1989 ish ( this was unusual cause at the time it was always Metrobus worked, usually mk1)

Weren't the Nationals and the East Lancs Fleetlines transferred into Walsall in the 1990's due to an increase in services to compete with Chase.

Leyland Nationals, East Lancs Fleetlines and even a Dodge S56 minibus bolstered the Walsall ranks during the 90s. Many of them in various deliveries and states of repair following the release from Metrowest, Central Liner and Yourbus.

This was probably the worst time for vehicle image and appearance since the WMPTE had the corporation fleets in service.

The East Lancs were the ex Coventry ones wasn't they?

Remember seeing one in Walsall with a poster on the back advertising BBC CWR 94.8, which of course was/is unreceivable around here.

There was also Choice as well as Chase to compete with.
