Why? Because there have been issues with congestion in Birmingham therefore it's has created late running 9s so instead of allowing the 9s to continue to run late, they create untimetabled workings called 9Es to minimise disruption to passengers, unlike Diamond where I have rarely seen an E working due to they still run the buses in bunches 226 is a good example...

Seriously @Trident 4194 you always say the 9s are screwed, Why don't you stay on a 9 all day and you see the where the issues of congestion arise.

Manor Way
Quinton Church
Lye Cross
Sometimes even Birmingham Street from the bus station to the bottom of Hungary hill!!!!

There is only so much a bus operator can do to keep services running and the easiest way to do that is Untimetabled running or even duplicate runs (which @Tony has mention can happen)

Can he give drivers instructions to be a 9E or do drivers have to go through AVL?

Yes, he is a service regulator, it's part of his job

I presume he must have told the 9 drivers off for blocking stands too, as they now go round that island and park up by the Train station

The 9s are a lost cause, can he give drivers instructions to be a 9E or do drivers have to go through AVL?

Yes. The 3 inspectors that tend to be in Solihull also do this. They have tablets telling them where each bus is. I've been driving a 37 to Solihull Station and instructed to enter Solihull Town Centre in reverse to go straight back out towards Birmingham, so basically not serving the Station.

They can radio any bus with their portable radio.

You mean they tell you to drive into the town centre in reverse gear? I've always wondered about bus inspectors but that sounds highly dangerous.......  :o  ;D

Haha I like it.

For those who don't understand, I mean enter the Town Centre via Station Road instead of via Poplar Road

A 443X Trident on the 140 was conning into the City Centre via the Bristol Road earlier today.
The driver on 6713 on the X10 was using a satnav to find his way down the Dudley Road aswell..

What was stopping them from diverting them via the 80/a route to Summerfield Park, sureley Bath Row and Holloway Head are nearer to Broad Street and then passing through Five Ways so people can get nearer to that end of the Hagley Road and Broad Street.

Why when I pay money can I not chose the number 9 I wish to board? I'm fed up of being crammed onto a busy one because the one behind refuses to let people on, and instead waves his hand to go and board the full one.

No, it's so the drivers can try and get a few minutes back, jesus talk about first world problems.

From a customer perspective sounds like a pile of stuff and nonsense - the drivers concerned need sacking or retraining. Since time immemorial empty buses have followed behind full buses as a result of traffic congestion, and then let the front man do all the work (and customers suffer). Sounds like the 9 needs some decent competition to get NXWM to pull its socks up!!
