Fare Dodgers

My wife and I have noticed a marked increase in fare dodging, a common one is 'my card isn't working', but it's the same people every day. Worst still are the ones that get on ignoring the driver and running upstairs after being asked to pay.

What is the policy on this?
I thought it was that the driver turns off the engine and stays stationary until the situation is resolved, if this is the case then it would help if all drivers complied, then it would surely reduce fare dodgers.

This needs to be taken seriously especially with Richard Parker on the prowl.

I thought it was press the fare dodger button on the Ticket Machine which alerts the NX Inspectors and or Police to remove the passenger. I thought Drivers were best told not to interact with them due to the risk of being threatened or attacked

which is why I stated about remaining stationary and turning the engine off.

Turning off the engine and remaining stationary disrupts an already poor service and makes reliability even worse. It really boils my pee. And that isn't what they should be doing at all.
I believe they record it on the ticket machine. Data is collected so inspectors can be posted at problem spots along a route. It doesn't call anyone to have them removed.

It's not good enough!
The same people do this nearly every day, they will do it today, tomorrow and the next day.

That's correct that's the policy

Yes they will. But what's the solution? Turning off the engine and delaying my journey isn't the solution. Would you remove them from the bus yourself? Risk being punched, kicked, spat at or even worse? There is no easy and simple answer.

I see where you are coming from, I've seen passengers film these situations on mobile phones as they feel nothing is been done, they're not going to know what the policy is.

The fines are a joke. I think they should be increased to £100. You then get a week to pay it. Don't reduce the fine by 50% if it gets paid in the first seven days.  If not paid in one week then double the fine

The 'policy' is to record non-payers on the ticketer, drivers shouldn't leave their cab to confront anyone, any drivers that do, do so at their own risk.

It is not ideal at all, and to be honest while I don't appreciate these fare-dodgers getting away with it, it is also unfair on the paying passengers to have their journey disrupted.

I recall an incident last week while travelling home on the 3, there were three youths waiting at the Wake Green Road stop, the first one just blatantly walked onto the bus and sat down; the driver was knocking on his screen to get this person's attention, but was ignored. I even called across to the fella "excuse me mate..." but I got ignored too. His two friends then tried to get on, one did tap a card on the reader, but then they started arguing with the driver. They called their mate back, and at one stage they were all off the bus and back on the pavement, at which point I was privately hoping the driver would take the opportunity to close the doors and drive off, especially as they were starting to get abusive. Instead he let them back on! The three of them got back on and as they walked the length of the bus to sit at the back, the first chap said loudly to his mates "I told you, the more you take the piss out of them, then they just let you on".

It really irked me, these absolute piss-takers. They only travelled as far as Swanshurst Lane, not like they couldn't have walked for ten minutes if they had no money for bus fare.

Why aren't the relevant bodies actually going to start doing something about this? Ban the individuals concerned from the network, get them into court and make them suffer the consequences of their actions.

They won't take them to court, it'll cost too much

How are the relevant bodies going to ban people from the network? This will never happen
