Apparently it's the old travel shop now

Stu

I went over to Dudley this afternoon to have a nose around and see what progress was being made with the new bus station, sorry, transport interchange.

Considering it's been nearly a year since it was closed, and the work was supposed to take 18 months to complete, I really can't see this being completed and opened by the summer.

The old structures have gone, and so has Farm Foods. Apart from a few piles of rubble scattered around, the original carriageways are still visible. The Metro stops are completed, with platforms built and shelters in-situ, but there's no way that trams can use them as the tracks have been tarmacked over at the site entrance on Porters Field.

(So much for Andy Street's promise of having Metro trams reaching Dudley by the end of 2024!)

Unless some serious progress can be made in the next six months, we might see this completed before Christmas 2025, but realistically I think we're looking at early 2026.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Last time I was over that way on a bus there was no building work going on at all
think you might be looking after 2025 for completion
Also didn't Joe 90 say when he took over there wasnt enough money to finish the project
trindle road got a new road layout towards the tram tracks over where the parking patch used to be

Yes, I could see where it looks like a new access road to the station is being built, joining onto St Josephs Road?

I will go back again in a couple of weeks and have another look and get some photos, unfortunately it was a bit too foggy up there today to get any decent shots.

Added to the eeriness though, that whole area around the bus station was dead and lifeless, apart from a couple of crows and a pigeon.

It's going to take more than a fancy new 'transport interchange' to attract people into Dudley town centre again.

Delayed until 2026. What a surprise(not). Metro in Wolves was delayed. As was the metro extension in Edgbaston. The closure of Dudley was also delayed. Why do these projects never run to time?

That was my opinion, not a stated fact.

I may be wrong but it's only been delayed since Joe 90 took over saying the money wasn't there to finish it

karl724223

Well one year today Dudley bus station closed 13/1/24 with the promise it would take 18 months to build the new interchange so now they have got 6 months to finish it
Dow loff 😂😂

There was one there on site when I went by in January!

Phil Upton shared some photos of the tram stop the other day, which looks almost completed, but I couldn't see any sign of any progress having been made on the rest of the bus station.
