Quote from: winston on November 12, 2024, 01:04:50 PMThe current WMB Livery is rubbish, have a look at the state of the current vehicle's that have been painted in it.

Red is one the worst colours for fading & can go pink over time.
Its awful, the E200's at WB look orange now.

The Crimson should've stayed in favour of dreary grey.

For the umteenth time it was a single colour for cost

Ex Sutton Platinum's 6805/6/7 debranded now,  look  very presentable imo, not sure if advert frame will be fitted to cover the ghosting effect of old branding.

Quote from: Tony on November 10, 2024, 02:32:37 PMWMPTE had multiple shades of cream.

Standard practice in WMPTE was to repaint below the windows on any tatty buses which helped keep them looking good as that was the area in most peoples eyeline, but that meant several buses would run round with WMPTE blue below the windows and BCT stripes higher up.

The four different paintshops used (Tyburn Road, Walsall, Coventry & Carlyle Road) all painted the livery on in slightly different styles, so identical buses would be painted differently.
Painting below the lower window line would spruce up a majority of platinum's no end

If the Crimson livery was cost effective it would still be used now

My only complaint about the grey livery is that it makes the buses harder to see at night when it's dark.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

I would have thought the vehicle lights (including side markers) along with the saloon lights (when in service) would make them perfectly visible?

Sadly it doesn't. I've witnessed cars going into the side of a bus that we've got at cov because they couldn't see the bus in the dark

That's called crap driving bud

As a large percentage of cars seem to be a dreary grey colour I would suggest that's another person who should not be driving at all

The difference in a motorist's perception of a bus with dark red, dark blue or grey side panels in the dark I would suggest is negligible, if any at all - are we actually suggesting when the buses were generally white people did not accidentally drive into them? I suspect the answer is there's no measurable difference whatsoever and the body repairers have always been busy repairing accidental damage.

There's currently 5 vehicles at BC off road due to heavy RTCs, none are front end, all are third party blame, none are recently repainted

For people suggesting Crimson or Red my mates dad works in the Motor Trade, he says when he is buying cars at Auction he usually stocks stuff like your Fiesta's, Focus, Astra's some stuff over 5k to he says mostly red cars are faded and look scruffy, lacker peel, bits looking pink, the only red cars that don't are stuff like Ferrari's, Lambo's and F-Type Jag's and why because the owners usually put Paint Protector on them and clean the cars and have car covers his own personal F-Type is stored like this. But if you go onto Autotrader and buy a 12 year old Focus in Red it may look tidy but more than likely looks Orange or Pink and has Lacker peel. Black shows dirt badly, White is a nightmare to clean, Grey is the most popular colour on new cars as it is a happy medium Ground between Black and White.

Buses unlike Ferrari's won't have Paint Protection applied spend most days for long hours getting dirty, in the sun and stored outside 4968 is an example however of how well a Red and White bus can hold up it may have got worse since I last saw it. But there is a reason Grey and Silver are the most popular colours on Cars because it doesn't show Dirt, is easy to clean and cheap to replace. Going back to Cars if a Red Car needs minor Paint it is hard to source the right shade of Red for example the F-Type Jag was available with 3 Red Colour options Salsa Red (Bright Metalic Red), Italian Racing Red (Darker Red to Salsa) and Calderra Red the later to could look similar. You saw it with NX Buses in the Red and White area Buses having different shades of Red Panels. Grey is an easy colour to replace. Red Paint is hard to obtain if you keep it Grey as a rule you can get away with different shades of Grey if it's Dark Grey like NX or most BMW's and Audi's these days as no one would notice it fits in better even if you do than a Different shade of Red.

What went past me in the dark at 1750 a leccy bus well you could see the stainless steel wheels four orange side markers
Cctv mirror monitors in the cab
Downstairs lights upstairs lights
It was lit up like a bloody Christmas tree
