No he definitely means the 98 which went City (Bull Ring Bus Station) to Marston Green Station. The 96 along the Meadway was a far more recent route. When I were a lad, admittedly a while ago now, the 96 was City to Winson Green.

One of my early bus memories is being on a 98 from City with my Dad to visit my Mum in Marston Green hospital and to meet my new baby sister. It would have been 1984 and I would have been approaching my 5th birthday. The only thing I remember about the bus was the strange seats that had grey edging. At the time we didnt have those on my more familiar Washwood Heath routes! Now known to be a late survivor of the YOX-K batch at Lea Hall.
