...is being delayed.

Disappointment as Solihull Metro expansion to NEC delayed - but alternatives being considered

Work on the new East Birmingham to Solihull line was due to start by 2024

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/disappointment-solihull-metro-expansion-nec-23041945

Oddly the article doesn't give any information as to why this plan is being postponed.

But this was surely the whole point of the Eastside extension, to eventually be extended into East Birmingham and North Solihull to connect to the airport and NEC?
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to QE Hospital | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

The coventry rapid system is tipped to end up going towards the NEC with plans to integrate with Midland metro.

Announced today that funding has been secured for the East Birmingham extension, through to the proposed 'Sports Quarter' including Birmingham City's new ground.

As always, worth letting the dust settle as there are claims this is just the CRSTS2 money promised by the last government after truncating HS2 and is for five years, not just the metro extension.

I'm sure it will come out in the wash.

why can nobody see, your robbing peter to pay paul, The Tram (when it runs) takes money from the buses, so by adding trams to new areas, the buses will lose more money, which will result in routes being reduced in frequency, and also ultimatly bus drivers will lose jobs as the bus they were driving before no longer runs, its crazy why cant people see the tram is not needed

Bulk movements will be needed for the sports quarter, it'll be multi use, not just sports, and no one's going to think the 97 will cope. Trams will help as long as (a) they have the capacity, doubling up would be nice but I can't see it (b) idiots don't park on the tracks in Digbeth.

The 74 still runs on soho road still is fairly frequent and people were that type of thing before the brum to Wolverhampton line was built, its called thinking long term.
