I think I win the award for worst karma.

I really do think having karma on the forum is a pretty bad idea, for instance someone I know's karma is being repeatedly put down for no good reason and I'm having to put it back up again each time. As I see it it's just a way of picking on someone you don't like.

Although I don't know how much control Tony has over the features of the site, it would be a lot better - and I'm sure many others agree with me - if you give feedback on individual comments, rather than on the user as a whole. If Tony actually reads these, I really think it would be an idea to have the 'nice/not so nice' buttons used for voting on each comment, as previously suggested. Like they say, "judge the action not the person".

I don't think I can do that (unless someone who knows SMF better than me can advise)

I must say the first of those two mods does look ideal to me as a replacement for karma

On the subject of 'karma' it might be a better idea to list the karma 'status' as it were, on the Membership list..IE where they are only open to view by registered members and NOT by the casual observer/viewer/guest. If, (as at present) a casual viewer can see the overall 'rating' of each member and soon realise that 75% of the forum members are constantly being 'slated' by the other 25%, they might think twice about prospective membership.... ::) which is no help to anyone least of all Tony. Personally, I can't hope to keep everyone amused ALL of the time so I expect to get some 'downers' occasionally, but a simple 'thumb-up' or 'thumb-down' yellow Icon should be enough I would have thought.. :-\
Mind the Gap.....?:-)

The first link should prove well for the forum :)

Karma is pointless if its anonymous. I'd like to know who disagrees with me so I can have discussions about it. Isn't that the point of a forum?

(It also allows people who know each other to raise each others karma artificially. You know who you are).

See above.

Tony, I was going to ask you yesterday but forgot, did you chance to look at the mods suggested above? As vinh1000 said, the first of them looks ideal to me

No problem at all. I can imagine how busy you must be at the moment.

Yes I say nothing and down it goes.  I think I might just start doing that to every comment I do not at the moment even rate karma to anyone.

Ash

Yeah that happens to me u post an unusual working and ur karma just drops lol

danny

Mine does that, I had 18 at one point, don't post and it just drops, never good lol.

Yeah I think it would be better to have like/dislike buttons for each comment as opposed to for the person in general if this is possible.

Stu

Or better still, just disable the karma feature altogether. I've administered forums using SMF before, and have never bothered with it myself.
