In terms of NXWM buses, how wide can a seat be in a 2+2 layout. I went on a NXWM bus today and I must say the seats are pretty narrow and with a low back. I looked at a bus like the Man CitySmart with their KIEL seats and they look much better. Would a seat like this (http://www.kiel-sitze.de/index.php?puid=2&pageid=345) (then check dimensions) with the arm rests fit in a bus like a Wright Liberator, Crusader or Eclipse Urban in a 2+2 layout? They just look so much more comfortable!

Most of us are not as narrow as we would like but I keep myself in shape and have good body results but even I spill over into the seat next to me I need to be an anerexic to keep on one seat on some more modern buses (all companies) padded bench seating was better like the mcw metrobuses non dp

I can easily fit on one seat to the deli9ght of the fat *******'s that always love to sit next to me, had this huge black woman sit next to me on the 900 all the way back from Coventry to town and speaking really loud on her phone all journey in a foreign language.

Was so close to assaulting her! Numerous dirty looks but she still failed to get the hint...

totally agreed!!!

seriously some people are dead annoying on the bus with their phones... seriously will pull a Dom Jolly on the bus next time someone does it.

Also whilst we have a topic for seating, can someone explain seating codes since you have B46F ?? H43/33F and all sorts, baffles me to hell sometimes.

also whilst that is mentioned, when changing the seats on buses and it interferes with the factory amount of seats can the company just make it to whatever seating they like? say from a 46 to a 42 sort of thing?

Seating codes explained

B - Single decker
H - Double decker
A - Articulated

The number refers to seats.

F- Front entrance / exit
D- Dual door
R - Rear door
T - Three doors

Examples:

B43F - Single decker, 43 seats, Front door
H43/30D - Double decker, 43 seats upstairs, 30 down stairs, dual doors
AB59T - Articulated single decker, 59 seats, three doors

Hope that helps with your codes.

The width of them dont bother me cos im pretty slim but the legroom jeeesus! im 6ft 3in an unless i can sit by emergency exit/right at the front or a side seat im screwed! im sure old buses like metros/nationals / fleetlines had loads more legroom i remember being able to sit any where on a Metro or National

They did. The problem is that even though modern buses are the same size, you lose a lot of useable space at the front of the vehicle due to it being low floor which means the area above the two front wheels is out of the question for any form of seating and also the wheelchair and buggy areas don't contain as many seats as they would in a conventional layout.

The operators still want to achieve the same capacity despite this so manufacturers simply cram as many seats as they can in throughout the rest of the vehicle generally as close to the regulated and allowed limit for space between seats as possible. Passenger comfort is not a concern anymore and particularly when you consider that many manufacturers believe they are designing vehicles for a 'short hop' urban journey where this doesn't matter so much, only for the operator to go and stick the bus on something less appropriate.

Whoever designed the interiors of the omnilinks needs to sit on one on the 11!

They're that bad they make a b6 interior look spacious.

Hell they make a mersyrail Pacer interior look spacious

Bob

oh yea the area above the front wheels is now an excuse for a luggage rack lol. Dont mind the wheelchair space but buggy zones do my nut, everyone else gets crammed in so the scummy mummy chavs can get their b*****d offspring and their fat arses on without the effort of folding it up :-p

Bring back step entrance!!

It's not just bus seating that is poor these days. I travel to work on the new Class 172 London Midland trains, and the seating is awful. The seat backs go straight up and the depth seems narrow. To be honest one day I travelled they were replaced by NXWM Omnilinks on Rail Replacement and the Omnilinks were far more comfortable!
