I seems to be all First Hereford services expect the 420 so far (which First could be keeping & operating out of WR) or I've seen suggestions that DRM might be taking over the full route.

I'm not surprised.  Hereford is quite a few miles from Ross-on-Wye so a city base would really have been needed.  There wasn't much time to set one up from scratch, even if Stagecoach had been interested.

I'm struggling to think of any other English city that is dominated by independents - anyone?

Ripon and Nottingham, with only connecting services to other places operated by big firms Transdev and Stagecoach respectively.

IMHO Nottingham is not dominated by independents, The two major operators are Nottingham City Transport and Trent Barton. They may not be a part of the big four group but these are not independents.

In the same token from September Yeomans will fall into the same category. In my mind independent means its not part of a big group serving more than one region, i.e. Midlands (east and west). Diamond I would class as not an independent due to Rotala in South West North West and Midlands, EMYS was the same till they sold off Figlands and Whittles.
