Like everyone else has said, I can't see this being a success at all. There are far better links to all the areas this route will cover and much quicker that being said as well.

If Green Bus wanted to run a route between Birmingham and Merry Hill they would have been far better reintroducing the 258 or something similar as that would restore links to Merry Hill which have been lost.
I agree, the old 258 route would have been much better. The current route seems to take one that already have established operators and generally seem to provide the quickest links between the main points. But yes I would of that a return to a 258 style route via Saltwells, Blackheath then onwards to Birmingham would have been better as there is a missing link there I feel.

Don't get me wrong, i think that TGB have got the 22 wrong, just joining up 2 routes i don't think is a good idea. Think they would have been better, as someone else has said, looking at old routes that no longer exist and see if there is potential there.

Perhaps worth pointing out... NX 934 didn't originally go to Walsall, they just "joined up 2 routes"
Now in exile in Oxfordshire....

But wasn't NX's 934 extension joining up two existing services, that would have still been used by existing passengers ? Where as TGB will be joining up two services to form a new route with the existing services still continuing and run at a higher frequency

Stu

One would hope that Green Bus have either done their homework and some research before deciding to launch this service, or Centro have suggested it based on passenger feedback.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how TGB fit these journeys in with the NXWM 22 and DIA 002, as both services are currently every 15 minutes, as well as how much they plan to charge.

I suppose we'll just have to see how it pans out for them, and how well they advertise/promote it, to see whether it will become a success or not.
My locals:

I presume the NX 22 will be changed/renumbered?

Probably not, why?

Sorry i just reread the fact it will follow the 22 route. I would have thought maybe a variation number could be used such as the 22A as people would possibly get confused if one 22 is going to Bartley Green and the other continues to Merry Hill

I think this is a good move by GB :) But i wonder if the loadings will be any good.

I doubt it, the NX 50 continues beyond the Maypole to Druids Heath. The TGB 22 will continue beyond Bartley Green to Merry Hill. As long as passengers actually read the destination or check the driver I can't see much of a problem.

Well people will see the 22GB and know its going to Merry Hill as its a different company?

Saying that green bus with the NXGreenBuses....

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Not the first time Green Bus have operated along an NX Hybrid operated route. The 558 followed the 1 route between Dudley and Wolverhampton

The Green Bus will also compete against the 'green liveried' 002.

I think part of the choice of route, as mentioned earlier in this thread, is to help out with loadings on school services to / from KE Bartley Green. One thing which let Green Bus routes 64, 125 and 558 down  was they only ran between 9.30 and 2.30 ish due to school commitments. With the 22 they can run in peak ytimes as well with a small diversion from which they can easily get to / from normal line of route.

They also tried running the 64 in peaks & it was a complete failure.
IMHO TGB would have been better off just running the 002 route rather than waste an extra 2 buses running into the city as has been said before the corridor they have chosen into city isn't a particularly busy one.

I'm actually surprised that TGB aren't running the 22 permanently through to Balmoral Road and then onwards to Merry Hill since this would at least give the people of Kitwell a link to Merry Hill and also there would be no need for the peak time variant since all journeys would run past KE school.

I do believe they will struggle though as had already been said the routes they are competing on have established operators using newer buses.

Errrm, TGB still use all their Olympians as far as I am aware. One of the E-SON Metros?
