yes that's the type i meant, showing the single journey that WN used to do on the 246 (and for which i once had to direct the driver between Brettel lane and Dudley because he didn't know the route)

IIRC Metros and ALX400s were regulars on that board

When did the longer white tickets start being issued? (When the issuing machines were computerised!)

I'm guessing mid to late 80's, before deregulation.

Thats an interesting question, i know that the postage stamp tickets didn't last long and new ticket macines were installed, but i don't think at the time that they were computerised as such. In my 1984 WMPTE timetable book, it shows paper tickets being issued.

I think the newer machines I'm refering to were called Autofare 3?

Just dug out my MR Keeley West Midlands PTE book, & I'm taking a guess at 1983, as the off peak fares were introduced then!

Yes it states on the running board. Although you do get some drivers taking 'shortcuts'

Until February 2012 Coventry running boards were a grid style instead of list of timing points.
After the 2012 changes a friend who was a very experienced driver went the wrong way on a new 16A. Fortunately Coventry has loads of roundabouts to turn round at, when I asked why he went the wrong way he said the old grid type were visually easier to read to see the routing variations from the spaces.
I saw at least a dozen buses that missed Hillfields out on the 16A and I bet there were more!

Not all of them have the route to/from garage (well some of ours don't)

I ask because I've noticed BC 24s take a few different routes back to the garage in the evening.

Hasn't he thought other drivers might not want their roll numbers and times they were working in a public forum. I have reported the photos to flikr as abuse
