This thread could be used to mention anything about the old garages, it could be in the General Discussions, but i'd prefer it to be here as I'll start with the question:

Where was Quinton Garage based? (Streetname)

Quinton was on Ridgacre Road, Where Tesco is now (The 99 goes past it)

CL

Liverpool Street

Good depot actually, many a memory of there. Got videos from a week before and on the day of closure. I'll have to upload it one of the days.

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

@clayderman, there's a picture of Quinton depot here where you can tell that it's the same site as the Tesco supermarket:

Along with Harborne, Selly Oak and Cotteridge, amongst my favourite depots as a kid.

@Mike K - Thats strange. Knowing I go to that Tesco, every school day for my food to find out it was an old garage is strange...

In other 'news' - I fondly remember Hockley Garage, living only a street away... I used to always see the odd Optare Solo just coming over the top of the wall, with the 3 mercs parked opposite where a billboard is now. Fond memories. And now, even when it's the Bingley Hall - I can still remember what it used to be... (Fun Fact: Whenever there's an event at the Bingly Hall, i'd "walk" pass into it to make sure I get to my bus stop 1/2 minutes earlier than I would - I don't think of it as trespassing, and nobody minds at all - as long as you keep to yourself & don't look too suspicious! lol :) )

The old Dudley garage where the roundabout is now.

Washwood Heath was and is still my all time favourite. Now the site of Pak supermarket on Washwood Heath Road. Some of the 1985 extension and even some of the original 1907 building have been incorporated into the new building.

A few more to remember.

Stourbridge - opposite the current Interchange alongside the Ring Road where the Mercedes-Benz dealership now stands.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.455948,-2.14374,3a,75y,2.07h,81.7t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s264YG7-yTiCvB2MTjpKOqw!2e0?hl=en-GB and an old photo at http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3jrdJMGTeis/TyAjNcLJvSI/AAAAAAAAF5Q/RbDbf09gH64/s1600/1169.JPG

Harts Hill - on the Dudley Road (246/297 routes) from Brierley Hill to Dudley.  It was on the right on the corner of Canal Street.  The site was used as (I think) a car repair business until relatively recently, but has now been demolished and the site is now wasteland.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.491247,-2.117083,3a,75y,144.05h,70.47t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s3px5cKNVX2a7qIUEy0ON7w!2e0?hl=en-GB

Cleveland Road - between Cleveland Road and Bilston Road not far from The Royal tram stop in Wolverhampton.  Street view from 2012 at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.581934,-2.121276,3a,75y,341.99h,86.99t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s3bvdiW3upx3KT5QzshrdFQ!2e0?hl=en-GB

Oldbury - on Birchley Island where the Total garage is now.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.493777,-2.02182,3a,75y,348.93h,79.42t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1smHfWxnUtKNav8-HfsWbB2g!2e0?hl=en-GB

Selly Oak - on Harborne Lane.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/search/selly+oak+bus+garage/@52.441899,-1.941543,3a,75y,280.33h,79.57t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sh2pmsTFFi5D_Nkg5m6N1jg!2e0?hl=en-GB

Moseley Road - On Moseley Road just south of the Brighton Road junction - in early PTE days it was the home depot for the 48, 49 and 50 routes.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.454601,-1.886684,3a,75y,128.37h,84.43t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sZrscZ2u7fHy82xweiB4E-g!2e0?hl=en-GB

Coventry Road - on Coventry Road at the junction with Arthur Street - just before the Blues ground.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.473991,-1.870848,3a,75y,104.58h,90.8t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sT1OaB-1x-T6lMIRRGggteg!2e0?hl=en-GB

I forgot one in the Black Country

Cradley Heath - on Forge Lane opposite the railway station car park.  Street view at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.469733,-2.092022,3a,75y,333.9h,82.57t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sRsr9WJX1tQ_Od0uVOZDfLg!2e0?hl=en-GB

Former Midland Red Wolverhampton garage at the junction of Dudley Road/Grove Street. Only actually used from 1964-1971, shocking waste of a new garage.

Thanks D10.  I've passed this more times than I care to remember and never realised that this was an ex bus garage.  As it closed in 1971, then it would have been Midland Red who closed it, which meant that it never passed to WMPTE with the rest of the Midland Red garages in the West Midlands.  I wonder what would have happened if it had survived until 1973, given that Cleveland Road was completely rebuilt in 1977/78.  That was another garage that didn't last too long, as it closed in 1993.

Not forgetting of course that it is back in use as a bus garage!
