Goodbye 1436.

1436 was serving 39 to Walsall at 9:36am. The bus stopped at the bus stop, by The Gate Inn (near Priestfield tram stop), to pick up passengers. A stupid van driver crashed into the back of the bus. I was sitting at the back as usual and then CRASH! I looked back fast and saw the van stuck at the right back side of the bus. The van driver was like "Oh, no!" Putting his hands on his face then came out. The crash happened at 9:47am. It felt like a hard push towards the bus. We all had to get off. The driver was asking everyone if they were alright and then focused on me because I was the only one sitting at the back. It was a bit of shock. 2 police cars and 2 ambulances came to the scene. There were 6 passengers (including me), 4 went straight on 79 before the ambulances arrived. I was assessed by a paramedic to make sure I was officially fine. The driver was also assessed. He stayed in the ambulance.

The Walsall inspector came 45 minutes later. 2 men with orange hi-vis jackets came. I caught 1446 on 39.

Looks like 1436 will be withdrawn, like 1474?

Hope you're ok @P419EJW

The damage doesn't appear to be too bad, might be more panel damage than anything, the rear structure doesn't appear to have been buckled as the back window hasn't popped.

Gee whiz Liam, I hope you're ok @P419 EJW.

The van's crumple zone working perfectly I've noticed.

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Yeah I hope you're okay @P419 EJW. Must have been a bit of a nasty shock! At least no one was injured by the sounds of it...

Even if it is merely panel damage would it be worth repairing on an 18 year old bus?

winston

@DiamondDart I guess it largely depends on whether the B10L's are due to be replaced this year, as the majority of the new buses due appear to now be coming in 2015

Hope your okay Liam, sounded like a bit of a shock, I had something similar to that on the 582 and that was a merc and has stayed in service. :D

Still, if repairs are more expensive then book value...

If they're not to be replaced this year then could one in reserve be reinstated? There must be either one of a spare b6/trident or omnilink somewhere...

Again, it depends on costs to re-active one. WA have already lost 1474 without replacement. YW's B10L 1457 was the last to be withdrawn.

It may be with reduced summer Pvr, WA could manage without a replacement for 1436 until the new buses arrive/cascades filter through

Yes Liam, you take it easy. What a horrible shock, thankfully nobody was seriously injured.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Hope you are ok P419EJW; must have been a bit of a shock. Shame the van had to hit one of the ZF B10s  >:( They should reinstate 1441; always loved that B10   :D

Thanks for the "hope you are okay" comments. I was shaking so I sat down in the bus then taken in the ambulance. Gladly, I am fine, just developed a minor back and neck pain throughout the day. It was a shock, a first time to be involved in the crash. I was looking at the picture again, and thought about it. 1436 was stationery and the driver used the indicator, so how on earth can that man crash into the bus? Confusing? I asked the driver before he was assessed, did he see what happened - he said that the van was trying to overtake the bus but obviously he failed terribly.

@Matt, @trident4370: Thanks haha, glad to be a part of the club! ;)

When I was on 1446 on 39, a passenger asked me what happened to 1436, I explained. Apparently, he said that the van driver's insurance will pay NXWM for repairs.

I caught 1454 on 39 later from Walsall at 17:45, when I arrived in Wolverhampton, I had a chat with the driver. I asked him whether if 1436 would be repaired or withdrawn. He said it will be repaired.

We will see. I hope it will - best ZF B10L.
