I do prefer the 4 spd Voiths we have at WN.  Especially 4574/4575 and 4579. Really good sounding and very nippy

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

@the trainbasher - I can't believe I'm going to say this, but a 16 year old Dart has more personality and is more energetic then those Alexander Dennis Ltd Washing Machine On Fast Spin Enviro 200's!

I must admit, the Stagey EK E200s on the Diamond 12 can shift. Managed Mach speed on the A2 out of Canterbury

E200's seem to vary so much. 30929 is absolutely fantastic-pretty much as new-but I've been on some very bad e200's with all the issues you mention and more. A wright crusader dart would certainly be up there with the best e200's though in terms of lack of rattles...

4565 id the best sounding in my opinion, but also all the Voith Tridents are crap, Inconsistent, jerky, jolty and not as reliable or consistent as the ZF Tridents
4583 for example is an absolute bag of nails. Here's Some Evidence....

The only half decent one I can think of is 4582. Glad they only had 20 of them
On the other hand what were they like when they were new? surely not like they are now?
I think any of the current NX buses are good given a good bus with a good driver.....no doubt a rare combination  :o :o :o
Enviro 200 Rebels......Venturing Out Into New Territory's!!

I have to personally hate the Volvo B10L Liberators. Hot, rattly and just horrible.

I have to disagree with this... They were some of the best buses ever made

ross4122

I thought the MAN Enviro 300 was your favorite Kiewii?

I'm sure it's probably just the strangled NX set-up to be honest. On a smooth road I bet those awful E200's are good, but on the streets of Brum? No chance. @DiamondDart

@Liverpool Street NX's are dreadful, but I do think Enviro200s are better with allison gearboxes, which is what most other operators have in them. Much quicker pulling off.

Are NX's that pathetic ZF box? @Matt - They seemed to have really reduced the power for the first 500 - 1000 rpm, absolutely no low end torque. I can't imagine these things lasting well if we get a freezing winter, with the gear box set up they'll most likely just spin out. Not that they've even given drivers the choice of anything, the damn CCTV Drivers Aid button doesn't even work!

Talking about that, @Tony, why has the manufacturer fitted these buttons and they do absolutely nothing? I remember, when being at BC, getting into new buses and looking at all the switches, just for the Driver Trainer to say "Oh, those aren't operative" - Damn it! ;) :P

@Matt @Liverpool Street

I agree with Matt about the allison boxes being better than the voiths which NX specified.

However I've still been on some bad allison ones particularly in London- dual door ones so gearbox isn't the full story.

Some though are brilliant Liverpool Street -30929, First Worcester and a Whittles one Matt got a video of are all brilliant.

First have specified a new ZF box for this year's e200's apparently- I read an article on it. Apparently leads to large fuel savings...
