This is a genuine, serious question. Not just for RS, but for all the spotters and photographers.

What is the fascination of looking at a bus that has just been transferred. They all look the same, sound the same, smell the same. 4102 on the 89 will be the same as 4102 on the 11.

As a teenage bus spotter/bus rider myself, I was more interested in the local scene (WH/LH) and the goings on around here, and although I used to go around riding the system, a bus being transferred from AG to WB was neither here nor there.

We never had the luxury of someone telling us timings either. You stood at a bus stop or bus station and waited!

I'll freely admit that I've wanted to ask this question so many times, because it makes no sense to me whatsoever. 

I suppose I had mates who obsessively cranked-up their total mileages behind Class 37s and whatever, which in pre-internet days with no mobile phones and only the bush telegraph to go on, really did represent some sort of achievement - albeit not one that you'd dare admit in 'normal' company.

But who am I to talk - I've seen certain bands up to 100+ times, in many cases night after night - which even more casual music fans can't get their heads around - so each to their own I guess.  I just don't get this!
