Yesterday the Network Rail press release said several weeks, but national rail website is quoting "at least the 17th" this morning.

Interesting they say there are 20000 lorry loads worth of earth you would have thought they could remove it by rail and said how many wagon loads, unless they are looking for pity!

They say they cannot run trains becuase of the risk of collapse due to the vibration. Perhaps they are worried the massive two stroke engine in a 66 bringing the wagons in will trigger it off!

There are rumours that the work could take up to 20 weeks.

I hope not, the cancellation of the 0705 Chiltern ex Kidderminster is having a massive effect on the London Midland all stop trains that run either side. The 4 carriage 172 LM trains are full usually without the 6 carriage load of passengers off the 0705 too. There's some pretty awful crowding going on at the moment.  >:(

Are Chilterns Trains passed to travel over the West Coast mainline, if so, surely they could transfer a number of sets South to North so that they can run the advertised services?
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

A couple of ECS moves have gone via there

How would they get to the wcml though? I'd actually suggest best bet would be some units sent via Oxford and Worcester
Now in exile in Oxfordshire....

Don't think it matters how they get there, just get units up north, it's ok for them to cancel services for a few days, but if it is going to be weeks, then something has to be sorted.

All 4 morning departures from Kidderminster are being reinstated as from Monday 9 February.  I don't know whether they will be 168's rather than 67's.

I understand that the cutting side is still moving so a final solution to the problem cannot yet be worked out.  There is talk of extending the tunnel along the whole length of the cutting (although probably without a Tesco on top!).

The latest Chiltern communication states that the line will be blocked for "several weeks".

If the embankment cannot support itself I can't imagine it can support the roof of a tunnel.

Good news, a massively improved timetable from next week. Kiddy trains back in the morning peak and extra rail replacement coaches between Banbury and Warwick Parkway:

and the new Banbury fare match, which if you are travelling off peak with a super off peak return will save you...... NOTHING!

Some of the Leeds - Southampton Freightliner services are coming down the ECML to Holloway then around the North London Line to South Acton, to Old Kew Junction then via the Hounslow loop to Feltham (going past my flat - being woken up 10 minutes before my alarm is due to go off is not amusing) and then via Virginia Water to Byfleet and New Haw and the South Western Main Line to Southampton.
