Twice this week the 08:30 service 27 to Ratby left the bus station several minutes late, and in both cases the bus was just laying about while the driver was nowhere to be found.

By the time it arrived at Fosse Park, the 1740 Leicester - Narborough was running 17 minutes late, which could potentially have meant the driver might be close to exceeding his hours if he continued to Narborough then back to depot, especially if there were any further delays on his empty trip. The 1800 Leicester - Narborough was less than 5 minutes behind the 1740 at Fosse Park so, apart from having to change buses, the impact on passengers would have been minor.

If 17 minutes is enough of a delay to put a driver at risk of exceeding their hours that's extremely poor planning and doesn't allow sufficient contingency for anything but the most minor of unexpected occurrences. Whilst everyone would prefer a consistently on time service the reality is that delays of at least 30 minutes should be accommodated for when planning driver rotas as it is far from uncommon for things to happen that cause this level of delay.

Are you suggesting that every trip should have a 30mins 'buffer' built in so that there will/should be no possible delays to following trips?

I think you'll find he means a 30 minute buffer at the end of the shift to allow for the route to be completed and return the bus to the depot within the drivers hours.

How do know it wasn't just a case of the driver having to finish on time for personal reasons?

Who or what is this "diagrammer" of which you speak?

You may find vehicles allocated to peak only workings where they are required by the engineers during the day. Not uncommon with new vehicles where there may be warranty work undertaken.

There is more than 17 minutes contingency built into our duties, but thank you for your informed feedback.

One of the E400s from Milton Keynes (4400) entered service today, on the 104. Nice to see a newer E400 in Leicester again! Wonder what they have been doing over the past month?

It was in service yesterday on service 49 tracking with the spare ticket machine.

See they managed to get the second to oldest bus 4760 on the 48 today while all the nice shiny green buses have a rest, as opposed to First who only used greens today.
