I'll start it off. It was close between the class 172 and class 150, but the class 172s just edged it, they sound great with the mechanical transmission and look great, the inside has nice carpet and the toilets look really nice, and there are end gangways on each end coach so it can join other 172 units or 153 units. I ride on them every day, but they never get boring

The 323's got my vote because I've rode on them since I was about 4 years old so you can say I grew up with them ;)
60 Birmingham - Cranes Park
72/72A Solihull Station - Chelmsley Wood
73 Solihull - Heartlands Hospital
X1 Birmingham - Coventry
X2 Birmingham - Solihull Station
A10 Solihull - Cranes Park / Chelmsley Wood

I cannot vote on this.  If the 220, 221 and 390 are considered to be commuter trains then the finest diesel train ever - the Class 43 - should also be in the list.  Also, Class 67's are used on Birmingham to London Marylebone commuter services.

They may be considered the best diesel units, but there are many other quality DMU/EMUs, which some people may prefer, I.e. the class 150 and 172 are my favourite trains of all time  :)

I may not use the 185 personally but I am impressed with the way the power /torque raises the front end slightly-like a stallion as they depart-esp on a fully loaded trains between preston and piccadilly.
Mind the Gap.....?:-)

I also like the Class 153s they usual run the Snow Hill Lines connected with a class 170 but I almost miss it  >:(
