There was no such thing as Travel Coventry in 1998 remember. Everything was delivered in TWM livery (most of Coventry's 1st batch of Mercs had that dreadful Primelines livery though).

I loved that livery and loved the route, 20 20A 20E 40 and 50. Birmingham could learn alot from coventry and their bus priority measures.

Could they? All I see in Coventry is abuse of the bus priorities the same as in Birmingham including the Whittle arch and I have never seen police stopping anybody there, at least I have in Birmingham.

The Bus Lane cameras Birmingham Council are introducing with the Corporation Street changes sound much better than anything Coventry have done

I worked at coventry in 2002 for 11 months and did the 20 and its variants everyday and the bus priority measures then along that route worked very well and so did the branded and audio equiped mercedes on the route. But granted the bus priority on the 4 that i also did was abused by other motorists when operating out of city towards Binley. But all in all a much better set up at that time.

I believe it was 1436 at Pensnett that was fitted with a ZF gearbox when all the others had a 3 speed Voith. Does anyone know of any others fitted with a ZF?

lynx1103

Only 1431-1440 was fitted with ZF gearboxes

all the rest were voith

matt904102

Any idea why these 2 were different?

PM

There were more than 2 with ZFs-maybe TWM just wanted to try out ZF boxes perhaps in preparation for buying the mercs

Liberator9

Must say the ZFs are great on the Liberators. Great run on the dual carriageway at times with them!

PM

I much prefer ZF boxes it must be said-the tridents especially sound better with them and have better acceleration

MW

Within NXWM, the B10Ls, ALX400s (in both Dennis Trident and Volvo B7TL form) and Geminis are in ZF and Voith formats, so they can be compared easily. I feel that I'm forgetting another bus in both forms.

I prefer ZF as well, but I like the roar of Voiths when they change from 1st to 2nd, like the early Tridents have.

Which Tridents have Voith and which have ZF

4125-4395 are definitely all Voith. I'm not sure if the Coventry ones, 4396 onwards, are Voith or ZF.

4425-4634 are all ZF, except for around 20 of WN's which are apparently Voith. These are the ones for the 126. I've never used them so I don't know, but others say that they are Voith.

4396-4405 are Voith and 4406-4414 are ZF ;)

Are you sure?

Also, I'm pretty sure not it's 4565-4584 with the Voith boxes.

So to confirm, if Rob is correct:

4125-4405 = Voith
4406-4564 = ZF
4565-4584 = Voith
4585-4634 = ZF

All the Enviro400s are ZF.

4405 is also ZF Rob. Shame we didin't have more Voith ones like 4565 - 4584, nearly half of Stagecoach's Tridents and many of their early Enviro400s are Voith and they sound brilliant. Saying that, iv always had a liking for 4565 and 4569
