Something surely has to be done about the x22 especially. The amount of E workings is incredible. Today I saw 2 in convoy

There were six X20/21/22s within around 10 mins heading out of town this evening. Absolute shambles of a corridor. Heard someone sat behind me on the 23 the other day moaning about having to wait over half an hour for a bus home from work and had given up using the X22, taking the 23 instead and walking the rest of the way home.

I overheard the driver getting off an X21 in the City saying it took them 58 mins to get from the QE to City. The traffic is getting beyond ridiculous.

Is the E prefix actually being used any more, seen a number of buses on short working but displaying just the route numbers.

eg: shouldn't the X10 journeys between Birmingham and Merry Hill theoretically be X10E as the full route is Birmingham to Gornal Wood!

It is, the 94, 55, 11A/C, 14, 97, 28 and 60, certainly all still use the E prefix.
I saw a 190X at the Fox and Goose this evening displaying 28E.

no because it's timetabled and if you say that you can say shouldn't the 28 say 28E as it terminates at Heartlands Hospital for most of the day they are timetabled

No, it's not because they are timetabled.
A timetabled 11E to Ward End, displays "11E Ward End", as is the same in lots of other cases.

The majority of trips on the 28 terminate at Heartlands Hospital anyway and have never shown an , most of the time Heartlands Hospital is the terminus, nobody is going to get on, thinking it's going to Small Heath. It's only Sunday and evening trips that carry onto Small Heath, it doesn't need to show E or short journey.

The 'E' suffix indicates an 'Exception'.

Which means an 'exception' from the normal timetable/journey.

Short workings will show -E because the journey is not completing the full normal route.

In the case of the 28, the evening and Sunday journeys are 'exceptions' because they continue beyond the 'normal' route to Small Heath, so they correctly show as 28E journeys.

Certainly a number of routes at AG and YW (can't really speak for any other garages as I don't regularly see their buses now) have dropped the -E suffix for short workings; it was interesting waiting for the 50 earlier, and it felt very 'London-esque' to see a 50 to 'Alcester Lanes End' followed by one showing 'Kings Heath', both with 'Short Journey' on the bottom line. The driver of the bus I got on was also making it clear to boarding passengers that he was only going as far as Kings Heath, for the benefit of those who don't look up at those big bright displays on the front of the bus.

No they don't display 28E.
They display "28 Small Heath".
