At the risk of turning this into the Norman Baker Announcements page, another round of green bus funding has been announced today. £2.4million is being made available to fund 23 new green buses each in Manchester and Sunderland, another seven for York plus a pilot scheme to convert a diesel bus to electric propulsion, two new buses for Oxfordshire, conversion of five buses to run on natural gas in Sheffield and exhaust gas treatment for 29 buses in the West Midlands and five each for the Chiltern District of Buckinghamshire and Swale Borough in Kent.

No further mention of hybrid buses for Coventry, but looks like someone here in the West Mids is going to see 29 buses upgraded to meet current emissions requirements...
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Not all of the original £20 million fund for Greenbus fund 4 has been awarded, only £11.644 Million worth of grants were announced in May/have been awarded to date.

Wonder what buses will receive the exhaust gas treatment?
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

What is exhaust gas treatment? How does it affect a bus?

Do they mean Presidents to be allowed into city after treatment? Or Tridents Euro5/6'd?

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

Just reduces exhaust gas emissions, if like the example below the buses chosen will need to have adblue

That was my thought as well, but I didn't think they'd choose vehicles so young

You're all assuming it is NX buses that will receive the treatment, could be any operator. ;)

It would be very strange if it wasn't.

the trainbasher

Could be Rotala and the Plaxton Centros for all we know

Or Perry Barrs E400s

What I'm saying is, with regards to National Express buses, with the exception of the Optare Spectras, Optare Solos, Plaxton Presidents, Mercedes O405s, Dennis Darts, Volvo B6LEs and Volvo B10Ls, all their fleet is at least Euro3 compliant already, which is at present the minimum requirement for regular frequency services within the Birmingham SQP designated area. And most of the above listed bus types are already near their withdrawal date. And as NX is in a better financial position, seeing as a further brand new 300 odd new buses are due for purchase and delivery within the next couple of years, which will further withdraw most of the older vehicles, I fail to see why they would waste money on 'upgrading' older vehicles when there is no necessity to. Even if the minimum requirements for the Birmingham SQP change next year, vehicles can still cascade elsewhere.

And you could use the same argument for Rotala who may even have a higher percentage of their fleet at Euro3 than NX, and not many other operators have 29 vehicles!

Perhaps it is just because an operator wants the good publicity

Is it stated that the 29 buses receiving treatment will be from the same operator? It could be a selection from different operators.
