Following on from the news of brand new Borismaster LT62 which could be a write off following its recent accident, I was wondering about cases in the past when buses have been written off when almost new following a crash?

I very much doubt there is £342,000.00 worth of repairs needed, which is what is needed to write a brand new NBFL off.

Tony

Regardless of money, the issue with crashes like these is whether a repair is even possible, there is going to be much more damage to that NBFL than is visible

Worst case scenario it would be a complete new body, which would still be cheaper than than a complete new bus.

It's to my understanding 1623 was taken early in its life. As with 4012(?)

4012 is still going strong!

I stand corrected. It was 4014, I was unsure, hence the question mark..

Yeah, wasn't 4014 destroyed in an arsene attack? Or am I confusing it with another bus?

You mean it was destroyed by the Arsenal manager?

Yes it was set alight by scum in Druids Heath before they got off.

No it is purely money. Everything is physically repairable. All buses are just hundreds of smaller components, and bus can be stripped down and any damaged parts replaced. It is just whether the cost of the components and the labour to strip the damaged parts off and then put new ones on exceeds to book value.

That is how all insurance works

Makes me sad to see buses wasted like that. I hope they got justice in some way

What if a bus needs to be mostly dismantled in order to be able to replace a damaged part? Would that ever happen?

If I remember rightly 4014 was written off due to electrical fault hence the fire damage.

Were 1623 and 1589 the only 2 buses damaged in this fire, John?

Another one I can think of, 4088 was only 8 years old when it was withdrawn.
