I think this is a fantastic idea! The initial cost might seem a lot (this prototype cost £50k!) but the long term savings, from not having to print off new sheets when timetables/routes are updated, as well as the reduced electricity costs compared to LED/LCD screens, have to be taken into consideration.

I also like the idea that 'emergency' information can be easily posted, say for example if a bus stop is not being served due to diversion etc, which should be very useful to passengers.
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Definitely the way to go...... timetables can be updated quickly in one go rather than having to pay a contractor/NWM staff to replace paper copies individually at each stop/shelter.

Revised timetables could be set to change at Midnight on the Saturday prior to changes taking place on the Sunday

I assume that this would have to be phased due to the initial cost of implementation, and may start with Gold corridors first should it be given the go ahead. The cost of a large production batch would not doubt be much cheaper than the £50k for the prototype

The new electric bus stops, are not going too well with 1 bus stop top of Corporation Street displaying '935A' when there should be several on there (65,67,934,935,936,997,997E,51,33,907,952) probably missed out 1 or 2, but my point being; who's to say these wont go the same way ?

Tonight the electronic displays on stops MS1 and MS2 by the Bull Ring were out of action.

Haven't seen the actual display but could be very useful for trying out new formats of bus stop information for short lengths of time and seek feedback.
You could also advertise impending changes or seek feedback for future changes more effectively.
If fares are displayed they also could be updated at the time of the change for either annual fare increase or promotions.
Is it only black and white or can colours be displayed?
