Have any of the above Mercs actually made it in to the training fleet yet?

All seems to have gone very quiet.....

I thought Tony had said that 1688 was being converted into a classroom and that 1690 was dead

I seem to remember Tony reported that one or two of 1690-1692 had being undergoing conversion work, but then all has gone quiet with no paintshop reports.

I'm sure I've seen a picture that show's some of the batch dumped at the back of Park Lane still untouched?

Three have turned out to be nails and look likely to go into reserve without being used, two are going to be used for training and the sixth as the mobile classroom

3 out of 6 can be used, thats pretty poor and these are the younger more modern Mercs.

I still say the older Mercs are the better ones.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

If the mark II Mercs aren't in good enough condition to go in the training fleet, it might explain why the refurb programme has been halted

Could they not just be reinstated to replace older Mercs since theyre not total heaps?

They are total heaps, if they weren't they would be in the training fleet!

From what  I,ve heard from around the garage 0405n are suffering serious corrosion issues , seems about wright a lot mercedes Benz products suffered from cost cutting exercises during that era corrosion protection prime example , just look out for vans and cars of that era serious rust, shocking stuff from a premium product manufacturer. At least they,ve learnt from the error of there ways . I do wish nx had bought the citaros instead of scanias though the most that I see in the city from arriva do look quality.

The  rust has been visible on the exterior panels for years. Back in 1998 I saw one of them in Aston en route to Evobus in Barnsley for finishing - you could see rust forming already on the framework.
