For me, I personally think NXWM should be focusing on refurbishing all remaining TWM liveried ALX400's in the 4125-4224 series still in TWM livery as first priority, then to refurb & re-paint examples in early NX livery that still have original interiors. Otherwise it will get to the point where those buses are deemed too old to be worthwhile spending the money on to upgrade as per the Merc (mark II's)

It is years of under investment that are now causing the problems that NE face, they have many vehicles that are old, unrefurbished and are not appropriate for the work that they carry out.

TWM bought Mercs in such numbers, without realising what would happen if customer numbers increased. These buses have then been used day in day out and are now looking totally worn out. Even the new livery and refurbishments that were carried out still haven't increased there lives that much. Even the B6s and the B10Ls are looking in better condition.

So NE need to find a single decker to replace the Mercs, but not buy them in such numbers as the Mercs. Many Merc routes now need Double Deckers on them and through a cascade of older vehicles when new vehicles arrive this can be achieved.
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

A batch of Euro 6 Citaro's @ PE would go some way to redeem NX  ;)

In my opinion, it'll be B10L > B6LE > Early Mercs. Presidents have many years left, they are great deckers. ALXs shouldn't even be considered for withdrawal

6. The ALX400/ B7s are likely to be less vulnerable than Presidents because they have engines in common with Gems and bodywork commanality with ALX400 Tridents.

The Presidents are also built on the same B7TL chassis, so engine and mechanical components are same also.

My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Wouldn't it be possible to re engine the Presidents with a more modern euro compliant engine?

Might be possible, but at what 13/14 years old it wouldn't be economic to re-engine such old buses I would have thought.

Very true, they should have thought about it a few years ago, after all this emissions zone in Birmingham didn't come about over night!

mranon

they could re engine them through natural replacements when they fail

That's exactly the reason why they only re-engined a handful of the Y-reg Tridents at BC. They haven't got enough life left to pay for the cost of re-engining them

Wonder what the book value would be of a Y Reg Trident in 2013?

Probably next to nothing due to the hoardes of ex london ones with probably less miles on the clock and exhaust traps as well which NX ones dont have

4415-4424 should be withdrawn in next few years! There are not reliability and poor reliability. I do know 4419,4420, and 4422 are most time breakdown.
I'm dislike double decker! I love a bendy buses!

Don't ask to me about Double Decker and only talk me for Single Decker and Bendy buses.

I think it's fair to say that the remaining 5 x B10L @ PB will be gone during August & an extra Merc may already be withdrawn following 4085 transferring to WB ex YW

I make current fleet strengths for NXWM = 1540 buses & NXD = 112 buses

I think Ex- London vehicles would have a lot more miles on the clock than our buses
