What makes you say that? It serves more of Bartley Green, Kitwell and the Quinton Road which was well served by the 29.

Thinking about it more now actually, I see where you're coming from. To me though, the X21 feels like it has more places to serve (in terms of distance/mileage).
23 - Bartley Green
76 - Northfield
X20 - Birmingham Via Longbridge, Northfield & QE Hospital / University

I was on 6831 on the X2 this morning. As it pulled into Solihull Station just before 9.00, someone asked me how  much further it was to Coventry University. Seemed to have thought they were on the X1.

Was it in X1 livery? Many X2s are.

6831 is X2 Branded.

No-one to blame here except themselves for not paying attention.

In my line of work (ecommerce) it is amazing (though not surprising) how many people just go by 'assumption' rather than checking out details for themselves.

And I see this behaviour reflected elsewhere, where people don't pay attention to detail (usually because they're distracted by their mobile phone), so this person was likely waiting at a bus stop where the X1 stops, a bus then pulls up, then without checking, they've 'assumed' it was the X1 to Coventry, and just got on board.

Also, as these buses have next-stop audio/visual announcements, they must have either been deaf, or wearing headphones while staring at their phone, as they must not have noticed the regular "X2 to Solihull Station" announcements!

My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Are the Tridents that have been out of service for months any closer to coming back (4474, 4595/8, 4602)?

4598 will be next, hopefully next week

The 15:03 23 didn't operate today, and the next few journeys are 15+ minutes late (15:23, 15:21 etc). Apart from the driver shortage (which I understand), was there anything in the city centre that caused these delays?

Yes, a broken down bus at Old Square

Small Heath roadworks are causing chaos for the X1/X2 services. Buses over an hour late

Small Heath Highway might be closed though from my understanding. Which would likely exacerbate it.
6831 was 20 down this morning on the 8.12.

Yeah there are partial closures for the next three weeks, but the point I made was that both the X1 and X2 have suffered as a result of these Sprint works for the last few months, and regularly get delayed, and the ongoing roadworks in Digbeth for the Metro extension haven't helped either.
