I was thinking what are some of the longest and shortest running boards and duties?

A definate candidate for the shortest running board / portion of a duty is WA 159/02 during school holidays

Depart Depot to Darlaston for 0941 38 departure arrives Walsall bradford Place 0954 return to depot. I reckon about 1 hour in total depot to depot

Trident 4609

A fair few Peak boards are quite short. 59/14 morning peak runs to Ashmore Park dead then in service to Wolverhampton then a full trip and back to the garage. (So only 1 1/2 trips)

The Afternoon Peak board on the 59 departs 15:10 and i don't know the time it gets back to the garage but the last journey is 18:27 to Ashmore Park

During school hols in Coventry a morning peak board that normally operates a school bus beforehand.
Only works a route 7 from Kingsbury Road to Pool Meadow at 09:30.
Leaves garage at 09:15 back 09:45. Must be only about 4 miles.

9/01 departing depot at 03:58 has to be one of the longest, don't know what time it gets back though

Would be early I would have thought or it would run out of diesel

That's true. I guess a running board can only be as long as the fuel tank allows, the longest running board will be that with the most layover time

Do some 900 boards still refuel in Coventry Garage?
And is this the only route to refuel during the day?

Both 900 journeys i used on Wednesday didn't refuel. Why woukd this refuel as routes just as long such as the 255/6 and 126 don't

When arriving in Coventry, some buses then go into Coventry garage rather than park in Pool Meadow (they definitely used to). I don't know what times these were/are. Someone had said that they went in to refuel.

Maybe the 900 starts earlier on?

The 159/02 38 journey does seems almost a bit pointless, and it is at quite a funny time of the day as well to be sending a bus out. Even during term time, the bus starts from the depot (Officially leaving at 0929 and returning back at 1009), to operate a 13 minute journey.

There are also a few other boards, such as 701/01 & 704/03 which only operate the AM school journey.

To me, one of the strangest boards - based solely on departure time is 935/13, departing depot at 1752.

They don't have to refuel every trip! but yes some 900s refuel at Coventry. It is not the length of route that matters, but the amount of fuel used during the time the vehicle is out of garage, because the 900 has lots of fast running the vehicles are high mileage.

On average how long should a bus remain in service before refueling?

I remember quite a few years back, there was some industrial action involving refueling.

(It was either mentioned in the local press or there was notices posted locally, cant remember which!)

It was mentioned extra services like football services would have to be cancelled to conserve fuel.

(Sure Im right about this)
