On average how long should a bus remain in service before refueling?

I remember quite a few years back, there was some industrial action involving refueling.

(It was either mentioned in the local press or there was notices posted locally, cant remember which!)

It was mentioned extra services like football services would have to be cancelled to conserve fuel.

(Sure Im right about this)

Depends on the bus

Correct, standard Metrobuses tended to be able to do about 375km on a tank of fuel, obviously the size of the tank and the mpg decide that.

Just realised, I was told a while back that running board 9/01 departs depot at 3:58am, however the first 9 departs Halesowen Bus Station at 4:03am - so there must be one leaving even earlier!

Walsall

301-02 leaves garage 0456 returns 2332

W29-03 leaves garage 0622 returns 2346

W41-01 leaves garage 0602 returns 0004

Another candidate for the shortest running board.

I caught the 1805 X51 Birmingham - Walsall and the running board is

Run private from Walsall Depot to Birmingham

1805 X51 to Walsall

Private to depot.

Couldn't quite see the timings but I imagine something like 1720 to 1855.
Also not sure if this normally has a school working on the board - but that would leave about 1 hour unaccounted for.

That's my bus home nearly every day, although I only really noticed the running board a few weeks ago during the summer so not sure if it goes back to anything next week
Now in exile in Oxfordshire....

Liverpool Street

There was one Bristol Road board I did prior to retirement, I think it was 63/04, leave garage 0410 roughly, and then doesn't finish till 2515 hours. Twas massive, full board.

And then for overtime there was a tiny board on the 29. Special to Weoley Castle, 29A back to city. Back to garage. Something to do with the staff drivers or specials or something. Easy though.

One thing Daimler Mercedes Benz are good at is producing excellent Diesel engines, I do miss the sound of the 0405n for all its faults you couldn't knock that 12 litre engine.

running board 46/01 on a Saturday at WB leaves garage at 04:23 (makes the 04:30 45 to Walsall), and gets back to garage at 00:29 (last one 23:45 45 to Yew Tree Estate).

not many short running boards really apart from peak times, especially on the 5 when a bus can do 2 trips to Sutton and back.
an empty bus is a happy driver.

9/01 has to be the longest. Departs depot approx 0315 (some drivers leave earlier) and returns at approx 0130. Over 22 hours out, does first 9 of the day 0403 ex Halesowen and second last 9 of the day arriving at Stourbridge at 0109

However the huge fuel tank in Enviros means it never usually drops below half full

You'll probably not find a Trident allocated to the full 22 hour board then! Might run out of water on a hot day

So just another three hours and you have another 24 hour route.

vinh1000

Is there a long board for 97?
I presume the nights is on a dedicated rota for the 24 hour service

Always wondered why a 24 hr service doesn't operate? First bus departs garage at 3:15 and last bus gets back to garage not long before
