Well the new route would involve an extra fare on a First 32, the last time I used the X50 it went to Derby which says it all. @Matt it is one I've done but a while back

I love london, and I regularly actually walk around London instead of using the underground like most people, The centre of London isn't as big as some people think, and the underground map exaggerates it making people think it is massive and unwalkable. Last Saturday I walked Victoria to Baker Street. This week Baker Street to Kings Cross and back to Euston. About the longest Walk I have done is Euston to Paddington. Great way to get between places and actually get photos of buses at different places instead of 50 photos stood in one place outside a tube station!

Have to agree with you, last time I was down there I had a bit of time to kill on my way back, so walked from Euston to Marylebone, took about half an hour at a leisurely pace. Rather than getting the tube to Oxford Circus then changing for Marylebone. You spend more time walking between Tube trains and getting to and from the platforms than you spend on the trains themselves!
