Anyone know whats happening with the 289/297 in these upcoming changes. They are down for a route and timetable change I think.

It said that the 289 will serve Dudley Bus Station, and that the 297 will serve Stourbridge - the latter is most likely a mistake though!

Where does it say this? If its the VOSA registrations then yes they probably are wrong and out of date. Lol. :)

14. PD0001111/65 - WEST MIDLANDS TRAVEL LTD T/A TRAVEL WEST MIDLANDS, 51 BORDESLEY GREEN, BIRMINGHAM, B9 4BZ
Variation Accepted: Operating between Birmingham, City Centre, Carrs Lane and Birmingham, Hassop Road / Beeches Road given service number 952 effective from 09-Jun-2013. To amend Route and Timetable.

Saw a passing mention on some local council flyer about a meeting to discuss the rerouting of the 952 along Foden Road, I hazard a guess this would mean it can serve Booths Farm on the way out of town, which i suppose makes some sense because I've always found the loop a bit of a strange idea, but I don't particularly see why because it doesn't look like it's being extended beyond Perry Beeches

Couple of things that stood out was the cancellation of BC 47 (124), however the registration above (123) states a route change for both the 45/47, so it that more of a registration tidying up exercise?

Also there is a cancellation of the 934 / 934A & 934B but then a variation timetable/route change for the 934, 935 & 936

Winston, I believe the 45 and 47 will be terminating at High St and missing out New St / Hill St.

Sorry if this has been mentioned...

I still wonder about the 654 being extended to the city centre?!

BCentral Driver do you mean Upper Dean Street?   If the 45/47 were to terminate in High Street of course they would have to run past New Street Station to get there, though of course the Smallbrook Queensway entrance is out of commission until full completion of the new station in 2015....

That one has to be a mistake, unless it's replacing parts of the 46 (as it does have a route change) or 424 (which isn't even mentioned)

No, High Street is correct

No, they would use Upper Dean St coming into City, but instead of turning left through the tunnel they will carry on and turn left into Carrs Ln (like 37 etc) and terminate at High St.
The reverse route would be the same, but I think it would avoid Upper dean St and use the 16 route to Sherlock St.

Aah...that makes sense now.   And there are empty stops available on Lower Bull Street which would allow some services that current pick up by Boots in the High Street to use those and allow space for the 45/47.

There is a potential problem in that this would mean more buses traversing Carrs Lane, High Street and Dale End.   It's busy now, and it only takes one breakdown here to throw the timetables for the entire Stratford Road/Warwick Road/North Birmingham services into chaos.   We also saw how vulnerable it was when there were those protests in the Bull Ring last autumn.

I assume the 45 and 47 are moving to give them a more central location, the current stops aren't at all handy for the High Street part of the city.

Of course this now applies to many other routes too, but sadly there's not enough room for all city services to have improved stopping locations.

9th June changes have finally been released on the NWM site. The 289 will only run to old hill now. The 297 and 297A will not run via Quarry Bank high street and will run Coppice Lane and Quarry Road to replace the 289. I think this is much better. Not only were the 289 loadings very poor at the merry hill end I would think those in Quarry Bank would far want a bus to Halesowen over West Bromwich. Also the high st already has the 141 and many other buses towards Halesowen so giving the Saltwells area a link to Halesowen although they have the hourly 217 too is for the better I think. :)
