shorting the 289 does casue concern for those living in and around lion farm thou, now no direct route to merry hill

That's exactly my point about curtailing the service. The 238 helped fill some of the void when the 258 was withdrawn, now that's being curtailed as well  :-\. At least the 208 will see more usage around Brickhouse Farm. The difference between the 289 and the 4M is that the 289 serves all the nooks and crannies whereas the 4M is more direct, so while it may be "easier" just getting the 4M to Merry Hill, you're still alienating many consumers who live on the 289 route who may need to travel to Merry Hill. That's my view anyway, haven't really liked any of the changes around the Old Hill/Cradley Heath area since the 99/138 & 258 were withdrawn and it's no different here

NXWM will have looked at passenger loadings data and where the majority of passengers are boarding prior to announcing the curtailment of the 289. Obviously the number of journies from Lion Farm though to Merry Hill doesn't justify the need for a service
Exactly Winston, in its present state most loading a wouldn't justify the usual merc that is placed on there. It used to be a fairly busy route I.e it was once every 20 mins but its declined ever since. Lion farm is clearly not enough to justify keeping the full service.
When I was on loan to Pensnett and drove the 238 (as it was then) regularly, the majority of boardings in Lion Farm were to West Brom and to Blackheath. Vary rarely did anyone travel to Merry Hill. The same cant be said for Brickhouse Farm though, the majority from there travelled to Merry Hill or Blackheath, vary rarely to West Brom.

I can see the 208 benefitting from this change

Indeed, this backs up my point of how those in Quarry Bank/Coppice Lane/Saltwells im sure will much prefer connections to Halesowen and Brierley Hill than West Bromwich.

Wouldn't get used to any of the changes in that area. They change every year!

True they are forever changing though id say with the Sandwell review over and as the Dudley review has happened ages ago they probably will remain mostly unchanged for some time now id imagine.

Wonder if WB will take over the 289 from PE
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

Just thought it's going to be a long duty, 53 from Merry Hill to West Bromwich, then 289 to Old Hill & return and finally 53 back to Merry Hill?

Going off recent history, I wouldn't be surprised with more changes:
2010 - 99/138 and 258 withdrawn, replaced by 141, extension on 222, changes on 238.
2011 - 141 re routed to serve Halesowen instead of Blackheath, 222 frequency reduced
2012 - 222 extension withdrawn, replaced by 297/A, 404H renumbered to 4M - serves Merry Hill daily, new route 53 - replacing 450 & 123 between Bearwood & Merry Hill, serving Londonderry, Queens Head, 238 renumbered 289
2013 - 289 curtailed to Old Hill, 297/A re-routed to serve Saltwells & Dudley Wood, more 4M evening journeys  >:(

Yes, certainly in the last few years quite a few major changes in the Quarry Bank to Halesowen/Blackheath area. I still think a link through Saltwells to Blackheath to Birmingham would be needed though since the 258/141 withdrawal there but it was probably taken away for a reason i.e not enough passengers.

Though im not sure I could see what other changes could really happen in the Merry Hill in the near future.

This would be shorter than the current duty wouldn't it? It would make more sense for the 289 to move to WB, if they have the capacity

The 934-936 will be operated by Walsall. I'm unsure whether the 997 is moving
