Funnily enough I saw that one as well and totally forgot - it was 1794. Saw it in city at about 1620.

Just to imform everyone that the reason why NX put branded buses on other branded route  is the following.

1. Buses come in to depot before other buses (not branded).

2. They are short of buses on that route (even if it's not a branded route.

3 The correct branded bus may be broken xown.

I know it the bain of everybody's life seeing branded bused on non branded routes or wrong routes. You just have to pit up with it.

Those are not really the reasons at all.

The main reasons are actually
On a Sunday using the most fuel efficient reliable buses Available.

Morning peak
A branded bus is needed in garage during the day so will be allocated to a short peak board to get it back, some branded routes like the 101 do not have any peak boards, so they have to go out on another route.
A branded bus is still under repair when the boards are allocated to its own route so it will have to be used on one of the last boards out of garage.

Evening Peak
More buses have been in the garage during the day than there are peak boards on that particular route so cannot be allocated correctly

Other reasons include if a branded bus is on a long layover in a Bus Station it may be put on another route to cover a breakdown or late running to keep the service running while a different bus is brought down from the garage.

And occasionally just poor allocation!

I have had meetings with NX before and they have given some of those poins that I mad. So 'don't soot the messenger'!

I understand some of what you has said and some of mins are also correct.

Another reason is said branded bus fails to start or develops an issue before leaving garage

Every route Nottingham City Transport is route branded and yet they can put the correct branded buses on the correct routes 99% of the time.

So how can they do it.
It's not how the branded buses but how the generic buses are allocated. Virtually all double deck routes have peak buses.
Morning peak buses are usually branded so that if a branded bus breaks down during the day this bus is used as a substitute. If the defective bus is fixed its used for the pm peak if not it's dead anyway.
Routes with small allocations such the brand new Bridgeford buses are branded by corridor not route with route diagram for all routes in the bus.
Indeed on Boxing Day when route were crosslinked suffient generic buses were available in same way the ingenious link on the same day in Coventry 6A and 3A used all blue Enviros instead of branded E200s so it proves NX can do it!
By using peak buses to work one journey then move onto another route it allows buses to step back a departure maintaining the Clock face headway rather NXC who have no peak buses and resort to widening the headway.
University bus 4 doesnt run in the holiday and the 34 is vastly reduced, so the buses are parked up but at 9 years they are the oldest double deckers in the fleet.
What a mine of information and inspiration Bustimes can be!
