I've just seen this photo of a versa on the 50 advertising the £2.50 return tickers. I wonder if this will be rolled out on all displays of the services that have the special £2.50 return tickers offered for them.

One thing I also noticed yesterday, is that the 50 had 3 Hybrids and the usual 2 branded Centros on there, normally it is a mix of darts and solos(plus the Centros). Could this be Diamond stepping up competition?

It's looking that way. You don't start advertising day returns on your best buses unless you're up for a fight. Perhaps they're thinking they can push The Green Bus off the route?

Has the definition of Monopoly changed now? The Green Bus operates three routes in the entire city of Birmingham.

Green Bus may have a 'monopoly' on school services, but I believe that is irrelevant, as their school services only run once a day (one morning, one afternoon).
My locals:
2 - Birmingham to Maypole | 3 - Birmingham to Yardley Wood
11A/C - Birmingham Outer Circle | 27 - Yardley Wood to Frankley
76 - Solihull to Northfield | 169 - Solihull to Kings Heath

Saw the same sort of  £2.50 fare advert on hybrid working on 16 this afternoon.

Yes which means they have the majority of the fleet inside the depot. They could buy more buses for the school/commercial services.

The return fare on the blinds of Diamond's 50 route has been on there for at least 2 years.

The return fares were taken off all services a while back here is a nifty 50 centro in early march this year it doesn't display the return branding.

Hope they start to display them on the black diamond services aswell.

...and the vast majority of pupils travelling to and from school use the scheduled bus services provided by the likes of NXWM rather than Green Bus....

If Diamond do decide to re-launch Day Return tickets on the 16 and the 50, will NXWM respond?  The NXWM Day Return ticket on the 37 route coupled with the introduction of the Scania single decks may have been the reason for Diamonds disappearance on that route.  NXWM did have a summer fares promotion on the 50 about five or six years ago when a special day return fare was offered (at the time I recall the 50 was using ALX 400's and Petes Travel was the competition.

Diamond still has it's return tickets on the 16 and 50 priced at £2.50 for an adult day return. They haven't increased in price for some time.
