The 8.3 litre Cummins C series in the Trident and early E400s didn't have a particularly good reputation amongst fleet engineers. The 6.7 litre B series in most E400s appears to be much better - I seem to remember Stagecoach replaced the engine in a B7TL with a Cummins B series - the 7.3 litre in the B7TL isn't very good on fuel consumption. Then there was the aptly-named Dart buses of Glasgow that used Darts on the M77 and found they weren't suited - these had the earlier B series, as in the Excel, and that wasn't a ball of fire either.

volvo had the bus/coach licked with the thd 9.6 litre lump. what the hell they did with the b6 god only knows!!!!! as for cummins, never been a fan. when i came onto service, i couldnt get over seeing engines replaced at the rate they are. all this emissions rubbish cant help, but in my opinion, small high revving engines pushed to the limit doesnt seem right. take a decker, trident has this c series revving away but older metros/olympians had larger engines but didnt have to rev their nuts off to move. same as darts/excels they have to work too hard getting hot very quickly

Thanks to every one for there response cheers.  Yeah I forgot about the b6le 99% are crap I hear from others only driven a handfull over the years , 666 wasn't half bad there were a couple of others I forget which were  ok.  I would have loved to have seen a merc 0405n with body work from wrightbus  probably would have been the ultimate single decker.  Wrightbus liberator , crusader ,bodywork and interiors seemed to have lasted well .

I was trying to answer the question. Somebody asked if BC have their E400's yet so i answered as nobody else had.

I posted it in the other thread as a general observation, B'ham Central Driver may not have seen my post in other thread.

Apologies anyway :)

If 4327 and 4328 were really returning home they'd be at park lane but will be good to have them back in wn as such, hopefully they'll be spotless again when hitting the road.

I'm guessing pe may get a share of these bc tridents , well maybe but we'll see
