4358 now at YW out on the 76 today

Looks like the late Rat's prediction of 4358/9 and 4364-4368 to YW might well be correct.

4359 is now also back at Yardley Wood as well, according to a comment left on my flickr site

554 in service now at WN on the 27 today

Yes spotted it earlier, didn't take long to return to Dudley, has it always made a strange whirring fan like noise? Or have WN garage crocked it already as it didn't sound that healthy

It did make a strange noise the other week when me and matt rode it on the 244

That's 544

Find that very strange, repainting a Merc that has very limited time left before withdrawl?
Pensnett is my local garage. Favourite bus of all time is Fleetline 6360 (KON 360P).

If it's moving to CV it would have to be painted into NXC colours

The newer O405Ns 1628+ will more than likely have a few years left with NX before withdrawal

Don't know why i included 582 in th fleet list althogh more than likely will go to WN along 510 and 544

I thought all PN B6s except poor 502 had gone to WN?

1678 only req front end respray they respayed 586/662 when they left cov 1678 may have low mileage, higher residual value.

Possible, but when i asked Simon if there was a chance if 1633, 1645 & 1646 could have a new coat of paint to tidy them up a bit, he replied " In terms of 1633, 1645 and 1646 we feel that the resources available to us for repainting and refurbishment are best used on vehicles which will remain in service for some years to come", so i think the Mercs are now on borrowed time.

Looking at it another way though, that could just be certain garages ;)

Well with 300 buses approximatley due i would imagine most if not all of the older fleet will be replaced.

Strangely, i think the older Mercs at PE look in better condition than the newer ones.

Yeah i kind of have to agree :) I do prefer older mercs than new ones. 1540 is a good one

1515, 1520, 1521 and 1540 I all love. In fairness though, 1628 and 1649 I also like a lot, but the older Mercs just seem to generally be in a better state than the newer ones, on the outside anyway. They also seem faster to me

From Simon's reply & Stu's question re: repainting 1633, 1645 & 1646 in NX livery at Pensnett, the gist of the answer was that it was not worth re-painting/refurbing anymore Mercs, to me it sounds as though the entire Merc fleet could be on borrowed time. I understand parts are becoming expensive/harder to obtain in the UK and I suspect the Mercs may be quite thirsty on the old diesel with their 12 litre engines
