WMT - NON GARDNER ENGINED METROBUSES

Converstation came up over the weekend about non Gardner engined WMT Metrobuses.

I know that 2658 and 2938 were Cummins engined and then there were a series of Rolls Royce engined Metrobuses too (grouped at Acocks Green?!).

Why were these fitted so and did they require specialist attention being non Gardner?

Were there any other variants I haven't mentioned???

shortage of Gardner engines in the case of the Rolls Royce motors, if you call specialist attention basing them at one garage then yes.
Obviously being different would require different tools, parts etc, but too be honest the Rolls Royces weren't really that different to a Gardner, only the ancillaries were in different places.
As for the Cummins L10, now that was a different story, they were turbocharged IIRC and that opened up a new can of worms like engine ecus to deal with and needed specialist tools etc...

In addition to the Rolls Royce batch at Acocks Green, there were two more prototypes 7006 (new to Perry Barr?) and 7007 which was new to Washwood Heath. Both moving to Acocks Green when the 22** batch arrived.

Think it was 2239 that was converted from Rolls Royce  Engine to Gardner Engine at Acocks Green around 1993.

The batch was 2226-2245, and then 7006/7 were moved there as @Gareth said.

Not too long after, AG received regular Gardner engined 2416-2435 new as well.

Regular Gardner engined. So 22 RR and 20 Gardners at AG by 1982.
