As someone who used to use the 3 daily, I'd say they definitely lost passengers to the trains when the frequency was dropped, I also don't think the city centre changes helped either when they moved to Carrs lane. I couldn't say how they were doing now though as I only use them once a week but when I see them leaving the city centre they don't exactly look to be thriving.

I imagine the only growth would be on the  North Brum routes where they seem to be obsessed with investing.

Oh North Birmingham definitely gets a far better deal than south.

If I was to choose between the bus and the train were I live, it would always be the train. There are always frequent connections to Birmingham Snow Hill/Moor Street & New Street. There's nothing particularly wrong with the bus services, and they are very well used, you never have to wait long for an 87, but it takes me 7-10 minutes to get to Birmingham on the train, and there's no competing with that.
