Asking this as it confuses me hopefully can gain a better understanding of the GB domestic rules bus drivers must follow.

When you are driving for the max 10 hours a day what should your minimum break length be?

30 mins after 5.5 hours of driving or 1 hour 15 mins in total over the day as you would need at least 45 mins as you are working for more than 8.5 hours and then an extra 30 mins added to the 45 mins too as you would be driving over 7 hours 45 mins which of course can be split into 45 mins and 30 mins and not have to be taken together anyone know the proper ruling on this as it seems to be causing some confusion with my friends thank you

MW

The limit of driving is 5 hours 30 minutes after which a break of 30 minutes is required.
Alternatively, within a total period of 8 hours 30 minutes, breaks of at least 45 minutes must be taken during this period, allowing a maximum of 7 hours 45 minutes driving within this period. At the end of this period a further 30 minutes break must be taken, unless the driver is to begin a rest period.

My understanding of this is as above^

The UK Gov website seems badly worded, as it doesn't present the two alternatives and instead implies it as two regulations that must simultaneously apply.

Either that, or I've massively misunderstood Domestic Hours.

Thank you for your input and I agree the gov website is not the clearest will continue to chase this one up and will try to get a clear answer if it's either two separate rules or a choice between the two

I'd be happy to know if any government website is written in language anyone can understand, always open to different Interpretations to keep the judges and appeals court busy.

You'd expect the Traffic Commissioners team at VOSA  to know the regulations.  Might be worth dropping them a line...
