Hello,

I'm after some advice, for years I have thought of applying to become a driver for NX. I'm just wandering if people would comment the pros and cons of becoming a driver and the perks of it. What's the best depot in Birmingham to apply for?

Thankyou

Out of curiosity, what exactly are the stereotypes?

To make your life easier apply to whichever garage is closest

Do it, its fun I'm 7 months in now and I am still enjoying it. For garage preference just choose the closest one to you. As your gonna be driving for 5-10 hours a day, you don't want a long commute.

If you can have the mentality to not take anything personally then bus driving can be an ideal job. 99% of passengers will be fine, as long as you can ignore the crap from the 1% it will be ok.

It's one of those jobs, that if you have the right mentality, you can do your 40 hours then go home and not even think about the job - that is a definite perk. Many other jobs people become obsessed with and there is no escape from the stress even in your free time. Another perk is there is plenty of overtime usually available but I would suggest any new starter would refrain from diving straight in to 6 or 7 working day weeks straight away as you want to have some days just to chill and properly rest.

Cons of the job - biggest I would say is to your physical health - it is very hard to do shift work like driving and maintain a healthy lifestyle, particularly diet. You need to be really disciplined and not have comfort meals during breaks if on an early start for example, you need to keep to set meal patterns as often as possible.
